Adrien Brody<\/strong><\/a> was visibly emotional while accepting a best actor award on Wednesday, January 8, as fires continue to decimate Los Angeles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a heavy day for me,\u201d Brody, 51, admitted at the New York City Film Critics Circle Awards in New York City before crying, per People<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The actor regained his composure and said, \u201cIt\u2019s hard to accept something like this when there\u2019s so much suffering in the world. And um, you know, my heart goes out to all of the families and the animals and our colleagues.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brody was accepting the best actor prize for his role as L\u00e1szl\u00f3 T\u00f3th<\/strong> in The Brutalist<\/em><\/a>. However, the tragic events in L.A. were not far from his mind.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tLos Angeles is seeing a frightening natural weather event \u2014 and its star-studded community has been impacted. An extreme wind storm, caused by Santa Ana gusts, sparked fast-burning brush fires at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, with drivers along Sunset Boulevard and Palisades Drive abandoning their cars to seek safety, according to the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cMost of the homes on the west side, the beach side of the [Pacific Coast Highway] are gone,\u201d he said, per Variety<\/em><\/a>. \u201cFrom the Palisades on, this is our community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brody went on to thank the \u201cbravery\u201d of first responders fighting the fires that broke out across Los Angeles on Tuesday, January 7. By late Wednesday, another fire had broken out in the Hollywood Hills, and over 100,000 people are under evacuation orders, according to the Associated Press<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want to thank and commend the bravery of the first responders, and their sacrifices and their meaningful work that deserves our recognition tonight,\u201d Brody said during his speech Wednesday night.<\/p>\n
