Sh\u014dgun<\/i> standout Anna Sawai<\/strong> <\/a>is preparing for her first Golden Globe Awards<\/a>, but she\u2019s not anxious about the ceremony or the possibility of taking the stage and walking away with a trophy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like when I think about it too much, I do get quite nervous,\u201d Sawai, 32, exclusively told Us Weekly <\/i>at the 2025 WWD <\/i>Style Awards on Friday, January 3, while stunning in a custom Louis Vuitton gown. \u201cSo, I\u2019m not thinking about it at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cI\u2019m just going to enjoy it, I don\u2019t want to cry anymore. I\u2019ll just think about it when I\u2019m there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sawai is nominated<\/a> for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series, Drama. She is up against Kathy Bates<\/strong> (Matlock<\/i>), Emma D\u2019Arcy<\/strong> (House of the Dragon<\/i>), Maya Erskine<\/strong> (Mr. and Mrs. Smith<\/i>), Keira Knightley<\/strong> (Black Doves<\/i>) and Keri Russell<\/strong> (The Diplomat<\/i>).<\/p>\n

Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut announced the nominations \u2014 which honor accomplishments in both film and television \u2014 on Monday, December 9. Sh\u014dgun <\/i>is also up for three other Golden Globes, including Best Television Series, Drama and individual acting nods for Sawai\u2019s costars Hiroyuki Sanada<\/strong> and Tadanobu Asano.<\/strong> Before Sawai steps out at the Golden Globes on Sunday, January 5, she explained to Us <\/i>how her recent Emmy victory<\/a> is informing her award show prep and mindset.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like the Emmy win has allowed me to kind of not worry about it anymore, in the sense that it doesn\u2019t matter,\u201d Sawai said on Friday. \u201cI got an Emmy and that\u2019s amazing, and this time it\u2019s just a celebration of everyone. I don\u2019t want to focus on who wins and not. I think it\u2019s made me learn a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sawai took home the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series<\/a> at the Emmys in September 2024 \u2014 the first performer of Asian descent to earn the honor.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was crying before my name was announced. I\u2019m a mess today,\u201d she said in her acceptance speech at the time. \u201cThank you to my team and thank you to my family. Mom, I love you. You are the reason I\u2019m here. You showed me stoicism and that\u2019s how I was able to portray it. This is to all the women who expect nothing and continue to be an example for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sawai has since honored her loved ones after her victory.<\/p>\n

\u201cI bought my sister and my mom a Cartier ring,\u201d she told Us. <\/i>\u201cBut, none for myself. I am always trying to give more than I treat myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sawai\u2019s Emmy win and Golden Globe nod were both in honor of her Sh\u014dgun <\/i>role of Mariko, who died at the end of season 1.<\/p>\n

\u201cI personally feel like her story has concluded, and it\u2019s perfect,\u201d she quipped on Friday. \u201cSo, I\u2019m not asking to come back.\u201d<\/p>\n

That being said, if the Sh\u014dgun <\/i>creative team were interested in Mariko\u2019s return, then Sawai \u201cwould absolutely do it.\u201d<\/p>\n
