Gretchen Mol<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about her life after being the \u201cIt Girl\u201d of the \u201890s.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s always new fresh faces in Hollywood,\u201d Mol, 52, told People<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Saturday, January 4. \u201cIt\u2019s a constant wheel that turns over. And it is a youth-loving business \u2014 that\u2019s a reality there, but that\u2019s okay.<\/p>\n

Mol is perhaps best known for her role as Gillian in HBO\u2019s Boardwalk Empire<\/em><\/a>, but she has also starred in films such as Rounders<\/em>, The Notorious Bettie Page, 3:10 to Yuma<\/em> and Manchester by the Sea<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think getting older as an actor actually frees you up. You have more wisdom, more moments where you\u2019ve been both up and down, and the stakes aren\u2019t so high,\u201d Mol told the outlet. \u201cYour jobs become more about the fun and process of creating, rather than what people are going to think about the result or say about you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mol\u2019s career has slowed down since she was dubbed the quintessential \u201cIt Girl\u201d by Vanity Fair<\/em> in 1998. She moved from New York City to the Berkshires during the COVID-19 pandemic, choosing to stay there with husband Tod Williams<\/strong> to raise their two teenage children: 17-year-old son Ptolemy and 14-year-old daughter Winter.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe still go to the city when we need to, but the kids go to school locally,\u201d Mol told People<\/em>. \u201cIt\u2019s such a small, lovely community that we found here. Most people, I know what they do for a living, they know what I do. And it\u2019s just nice to be with them, to know everyone\u2019s names. It\u2019s just really good people.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Mol, her kids are less than interested in her past career accomplishments. \u201cVanity Fair<\/em>, in particular, meant something in a way that if I tried to explain to my kids, they\u2019d just be like, \u2018What?\u2019\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
