The future looked bright for Aaron Rodgers<\/strong><\/a> and the New York Jet at the start of the season \u2014 but now the veteran quarterback is left to wonder if he even has a future at all.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rodgers, 41, and the Jets lost 40-14 to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, December 29, the team\u2019s 6th loss in 7 games which dropped their overall season record to a wildly disappointing 4-12.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During the CBS broadcast of Sunday\u2019s game, legendary play-by-play analyst Jim Nantz<\/strong> revealed how Rodgers responded when he asked him about his future in New York.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe looked us right in the eye and said, \u2018I really don\u2019t know. I\u2019ll take some time,’\u201d Nantz, 65, said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rodgers is still under contract with the Jets through the end of next season. The team could decide to move on from the legendary quarterback, which would come at a great financial burden to the franchise. There\u2019s also a chance Rodgers could simply decide to walk away himself.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After Sunday\u2019s game, Rodgers told reporters the loss was a microcosm of the Jets entire year.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, it\u2019s kind of like the season, it just got away from us,\u201d he said. \u201cToo many games got away from us. We were moving the ball and then we just hit a wall and that\u2019s kind of been the season.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh<\/strong><\/a> in October after a 2-3 start, but the team has only won two games since under interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich<\/strong>. The team traded for Rodgers\u2019 friend and former Green Bay Packers teammate Davante Adams<\/strong> later that month, but the Jets offense has continued to sputter since the trade.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In short, nothing has helped right the sinking ship.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During an appearance on ESPN\u2019s The Pat McAfee Show<\/i> on Monday, December 23, Rodgers said the Jets would be his \u201cfirst choice\u201d if he opts to play next season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think there\u2019s a world where they just say, \u2018Hey, thank you, we\u2019re going to go in another direction\u2019 on January 6th,\u201d Rodgers told McAfee, 37, referencing the day after the Jets\u2019 regular season ends. \u201cThat\u2019s a possibility.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
