<\/p>\n Actress. Producer. Music supervisor?<\/p>\n Nicole Kidman<\/strong><\/a> used her connections to make a pivotal scene happen in her new erotic thriller, Babygirl<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n According to director Halina Reijn<\/strong>, the Oscar winner, 57, was instrumental in securing the rights to the classic INXS song \u201cNever Tear Us Apart\u201d for a montage scene in the new movie.<\/p>\n \u201cWe put it on the montage. I almost cried. My editor and I, we were screaming at each other,\u201d Reijn explained in an interview with the \u201cReelBlend Podcast\u201d<\/a> on Friday, December 27. \u201cThe next day, I called [movie studio] A24 and I said, \u2018OK, we need to get the rights to this song.\u2019 They said no. They said it was a hard no. And I didn\u2019t sleep for a week. I tried every other song that I could think of. Nothing worked.\u201d<\/p>\n That\u2019s when Reijn reached out to her lead actress, who managed to pull a few strings.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd then I called Nicole, just because we became so close. I was just like, \u2018I\u2019m so depressed.\u2019 And she said, \u2018Give me a couple of days.\u2019 And she did it,\u201d Reijn said. \u201cShe got the rights. She got to the real people and she did it for us. Amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n In Babygirl<\/em>, Kidman plays a high-powered CEO who begins a steamy affair with a young intern played by Harris Dickinson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The film\u2019s director recently defended the 29-year age gap<\/a> between her two stars. (Dickinson is 28.)<\/p>\n In an interview with W Magazine<\/em> published on Wednesday, December 25, Reijn was asked about adding to the pantheon of romantic movies released this year that feature an older woman and a younger man (including Kidman\u2019s A Family Affair<\/em> and the Anne Hathaway<\/strong>-starring The Idea of You<\/em><\/a>).<\/p>\n \u201cIf we see a movie where the male actor is the same age as the female actor, we find that odd. Which is insane. It should completely be normalized that the age gaps switch and that women have different relationships,\u201d Reijn said. \u201cWe\u2019re not trapped in a box anymore. We internalize the male gaze, we internalize patriarchy, and we need to free ourselves from it.
