Whitney Houston<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s former bodyguard opened up about the nature of their relationship in a new interview. <\/p>\n David Roberts<\/strong> protected the music icon at a time when she was one of the biggest stars on the planet. His work with her helped inspire Whitney<\/strong>\u2018s iconic movie The Bodyguard<\/em>, which she starred in with Kevin Costner<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n During a recent conversation ahead of the release of his memoir \u201cProtecting Whitney,\u201d David<\/strong> reflected on his time with Whitney<\/strong> and shared little details about their relationship that ended up being played out on the big screen. <\/p>\n He also said that there was a time when he might have been tempted to \u201cgive up everything\u201d for more with the star. <\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Speaking to the Daily Mail<\/a>, David<\/strong> affirmed that he and Whitney<\/strong>\u2018s relationship was not romantic, unlike what we saw play out in The Bodyguard<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you cross that line, you lose your objectivity, and that makes it dangerous for the person you\u2019re protecting,\u201d he explained. \u201cThat was why Frank Farmer [Costner’s character in The Bodyguard] and Rachel Marron [Houston] couldn\u2019t be together \u2014 he crossed the line and that was the end of him in the capacity of what he was employed to do.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite that, there were still some very real elements of their relationship that played out onscreen.<\/p>\n \u201cMuch of what was contained in the film, she and I actually lived through,\u201d he said. \u201cLittle details such as Rachel holding onto the back of his shirt to escape crowds of fans. That was how we did it.\u201d<\/p>\n Although David<\/strong> said that he wasn\u2019t initially sold on the idea of working with Whitney<\/strong>, he found her to be \u201cgracious, shy, introverted, well-mannered and one of the most beautiful women I had ever met\u201d upon meeting.<\/p>\n He was incredibly dedicated to his job, protecting her from any threat. David<\/strong> excelled.<\/p>\n \u201cWhitney<\/strong> did not know the level of threats she was exposed to,\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cShe had no reason to know. That\u2019s why she employed me. I was there to absorb them and deal with all the threats.\u201d<\/p>\n David<\/strong> even recalled a time that he tried to protect Whitney<\/strong> amid her struggles with addiction. He said that he reached out to her lawyers about members of her team who were providing her with drugs, which led to him being fired shortly thereafter. <\/p>\n \u201cI put myself between her and those threats. \u2018You want to get to Whitney? Go ahead and try, see what happens,\u2019\u201d he said about their time together. Elsewhere in the interview he added, \u201cI was hired to protect her life and protected her the best I could.
