Scrubs<\/strong><\/a><\/em> creator Bill Lawrence<\/strong><\/a> opened up about the beloved television show\u2019s upcoming reboot. <\/p>\n We learned that the series, which premiered on NBC in 2001 and concluded on ABC in 2010, would be returning<\/a> earlier this month. The news came following reports that ABC had hit a snag in negotiations<\/a> to work with Bill<\/strong> on the new episodes. <\/p>\n In an interview, Bill<\/strong> explained why he was initially hesitant to return to the Scrubs<\/em> universe and what changed to make it possible. <\/p>\n He also hinted at a timeline for when the cast and crew would get to work!<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s so interesting because you can\u2019t give an answer that makes everybody happy. I\u2019ll start with, if I thought it was a bad idea, I wouldn\u2019t do it,\u201d Bill<\/strong> told the Los Angeles Times<\/a> when asked what inspired him to work on the show again.<\/p>\n He continued, saying, \u201cI\u2019m not chasing commerce and without being self-aggrandizing, I don\u2019t need to. Creatively, if somebody said, \u2018Do you want to pick Scrubs<\/em> up right back in the same hospital with the same people on a normal day, everything\u2019s back to normal?\u2019 No, that would be disingenuous to the story. Am I curious and can I think of a bunch of stories about where some of these characters are years later, not being kid interns anymore, and having new young people around them, with the way the medical world has changed \u2014 yeah, without a shadow of a doubt.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat creative answer was easy. The complicated thing, and why I was always hesitant, was I don\u2019t work for Disney anymore. I work here [Warner Bros.], and it\u2019s not really, business-wise, a show I was allowed to go do. It\u2019s not jerky for Warner Brothers to say, \u2018We\u2019re not employing you to go do a Disney show.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n If you were unaware, Bill<\/strong> has a deal with Warner Bros., and ABC is owned by Disney. As a result of his deal, he will not work as a showrunner for the series this time. However, he\u2019ll be an executive producer. <\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not going to be a mailed-in cash grab. There will be a bunch of the original Scrubs<\/em> writers on the show; there will also be a bunch of new writers,\u201d he said. \u201cSomeone was like, \u2018I hope this doesn\u2019t happen.\u2019 That made me incredulous. Like, why the f\u2014 would you care if it happened? He\u2019s like, \u2018I just love the show so much, it would tarnish it.\u2019 I don\u2019t think that\u2019s true. Shows that I care about have had reboots. This is my attitude: If it\u2019s a show I love, I\u2019m gonna watch it. If it\u2019s great, I\u2019m gonna be super happy. If it\u2019s good, whatever, at least it didn\u2019t offend me. And if it sucks, I\u2019m gonna be super happy to badmouth how much it sucks to my friends. Not on the internet. But that\u2019s how I watch TV. To me, that\u2019s a no-lose. What\u2019s the big deal?\u201d<\/p>\n When will the team start working on the new episodes?<\/p>\n \u201cIn the new year. I can\u2019t say who they are because the showrunner deal is being made as we speak, but as soon as that\u2019s done, we\u2019ll start,\u201d Bill<\/strong> said. \u201cWe\u2019ve already been shooting the s\u2014 because we\u2019re old friends, but we\u2019ll start coming up with the idea of where the world starts and who\u2019s doing what. They\u2019ve said it\u2019s been so weird going back and watching every episode.
