Although Johnny Gaudreau<\/strong> loved the game of hockey, his family always came first.<\/p>\n

Off the ice, the NHL player enjoyed spending quality time with his wife, Meredith<\/strong>, and their two children, Noa and Johnny.<\/p>\n

Tragedy struck the Gaudreau family, however, when Johnny and his younger brother, Matthew Gaudreau<\/strong>, were killed while biking<\/a> in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, on August 29, 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cJohnny was not only a great hockey player, but more significantly a loving father, son, brother and friend,\u201d the Columbus Blue Jackets team said via X<\/a> after his death was reported. \u201cWe extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Meredith, his children Noa and Johnny, his parents, their family and friends on the sudden death of Johnny and Matthew.\u201d<\/p>\n

On March 18, 2024, former NHL players Konstantin Koltsov and Chris Simon were announced dead in separate instances, the latest in a string of recent passings to rock the sport. Johnny met his future wife, Meredith, in the summer of 2018 when she was a natal ICU nurse. She reportedly<\/a> lived next door to the hockey player\u2019s off-season residence in Avalon, New Jersey.\u00a0 After two years of dating, the pair got engaged.<\/p>\n

On September 8, 2021, Meredith and Johnny officially became husband and wife when they got married in a church ceremony. \u201cWhat a weekend!!\u201d the groom wrote via Instagram<\/a> after celebrating at the Fairmount Water Works in Pennsylvania. \u201cVery lucky!!\ud83e\udd0d\ud83d\udda4\u201d<\/p>\n

Meredith added<\/a>, \u201cWe\u2019re married! 9.4.21 until forever! love you so much @johngaudreau03 \ud83d\udda4\ud83e\udd0d.\u201d<\/p>\n

During Johnny and Meredith\u2019s marriage, the couple welcomed two children. In September 2022, the pair officially became parents when Meredith gave birth to a baby girl named Noa Harper Gaudreau.<\/p>\n

In February 2024, the couple expanded their family when Meredith gave birth to a boy named Johnny Edward Gaudreau. \u201cLove you @johngaudreau03,\u201d the mom wrote via Instagram<\/a> from the hospital room. \u201c2 under 2 life here we comeeee.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnny\u2019s death came just one day before he was scheduled to be a groomsman at his sister Katie\u2019s wedding to fianc\u00e9 Devin Joyce<\/strong> in Philadelphia. (The couple previously documented<\/a> attending the baptism for Johnny\u2019s daughter, Noa.) Johnny\u2019s other sister, Kristen, chooses to be private on social media.<\/p>\n
