Get ready to go back to Arrakis! Dune<\/em> fans rejoice \u2013 because the sequel is already in the works.<\/p>\n Dune<\/em> was initially released in October 2021 and was not only a hit with the fans, but with the critics as well. The Oscar-nominated film starring Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/strong><\/a> and Zendaya<\/strong><\/a> was a box office smash, earning more than $400 million worldwide. The immediate success of the film led to the confirmation of the sequel shortly after.<\/p>\n Denis Villeneuve<\/strong> will return to direct the second film. In March 2022, he revealed that the screenplay was \u201cmostly\u201d finished.<\/p>\n \u201cBut it\u2019s always a work in progress,\u201d Villeneuve said in an interview with Collider<\/a> at the time. \u201cIt\u2019ll be a work in progress until final cut, but I will say it\u2019s solidified. I have a script in my hands. We are in prep right now. My crew, we are in full prep for the movie.\u201d<\/p>\n Dune, based on Frank Herbert\u2019s lengthy science fiction novel of the same name, was always intended to be split into two movies, according to Villeneuve. Chalamet, stars as the film\u2019s hero, Paul Atreides, while Zendaya plays Chani, his future love interest. The cast is rounded out by Rebecca Ferguson<\/strong><\/a>, Stellan Skarsgard<\/strong>, Oscar Isaac<\/strong><\/a>, Javier Bardem<\/strong><\/a>, Jason Momoa<\/strong><\/a>, Josh Brolin<\/strong><\/a> and Stephen McKinley Henderson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Zendaya\u2019s role in the first part of the franchise was minimal and left viewers wanting more. Luckily, the wishes of the Dune<\/em> fandom appear to be coming true!<\/p>\n \u201cFor Zendaya, I will say Part One was a promise. I know that we saw a glimpse of her in Part One, but in Part Two, she\u2019ll have a prominent part,\u201d Villeneuve told Variety<\/a><\/em> in a March 2022 interview. \u201cWe will follow Timoth\u00e9e and Zendaya on their adventures in the desert. That\u2019s the thing that excited me most about going back to Arrakis is to spend time with those characters again.\u201d<\/p>\n Zendaya also hinted about her story line development with Deadline<\/a> in November 2021. \u201cAnybody who has read the books knows there\u2019s so much more to explore and deal with,\u201d she said at the time.<\/p>\n In the same interview, Chalamet expressed his excitement to get back on set. \u201cWe were ready to do it back then [when we wrapped Part One]. This story is far from finished,\u201d he teased.<\/p>\n Although most are set to return, Isaac won\u2019t be one of them following his character\u2019s death. However, two new characters will be introduced \u2013 Princess Irulan and Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen played by\u00a0Florence Pugh<\/strong><\/a> and Austin Butler<\/strong><\/a> respectively.<\/p>\n While Dune<\/em>: Part One<\/em> had a same-day theater and HBO Max release, Part 2 will have an exclusive theater release. However, it\u2019s yet to be confirmed when it will arrive on streaming platforms.<\/p>\n
