Earlier this year, King Charles III<\/a><\/strong> and Kate Middleton<\/a><\/strong> both announced cancer diagnoses<\/a> within weeks of one another, changing the focus for the royal family\u2019s year drastically. Though the Princess of Wales announced<\/a> in September that her treatment\u2014\u201cpreventative chemotherapy\u201d for an undisclosed form of the disease\u2014had concluded, the king\u2019s journey is still ongoing, palace sources told Sky News<\/a>.<\/p>\n “His treatment has been moving in a positive direction,\u201d a source told the news outlet. \u201cAs a managed condition, the treatment cycle will continue into next year.\u201d The source added that the king is feeling optimistic about the situation.<\/p>\n Dame Laura Lee,<\/strong> the chief executive of cancer support charity Maggie\u2019s, offered SkyNews an explanation for the possible difference between the king and the princess\u2019s respective treatments for their illnesses. \u201cIt\u2019s very common for treatment to be ongoing for very long periods of time, as is the treatment that the Princess of Wales went through, which is an intense period of treatment over a year, and then it comes to a point where it’s on an end, and she’s on that recovery from some of the impacts of her treatment,\u201d she said. \u201cThere are all sorts of different treatment modalities.\u201d<\/p>\n After the king announced his diagnosis in February<\/a>, he took a period of time away from his public-facing engagements, though his government work continued behind the scenes. By May, he was back to public duties, spurred on by his desire to attend a May ceremony honoring the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy. When he and Queen Camilla<\/strong> made an October trip<\/a> to Australia and Samoa, their first international tour since his diagnosis, sources told the Daily Mail<\/a><\/em> that he had paused his treatment.<\/p>\n The other recent indication that the king\u2019s treatment was ongoing came from an unlikely place. Following a conversation<\/a> with Prince William<\/strong> in France earlier this month, president-elect Donald Trump<\/strong> gave the New York Post<\/em><\/a> an update on Charles\u2019s progress. \u201cI asked about [William\u2019s] father and his father is fighting very hard,\u201d Trump said. \u201cHe loves his father and he loves his wife, so it was sad.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
