<\/p>\n Patrick Mahomes<\/strong><\/a> limped off the field with an ankle injury during the Kansas City Chiefs\u2019 game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, December 15.<\/p>\n The Chiefs quarterback, 28, suffered his ankle injury in the fourth quarter of the game, when he was replaced by backup Carson Wentz<\/strong>. Mahomes was listed as questionable to return by the Chiefs. While Mahomes walked off the field with a limp, he was later spotted riding in the back of a cart, per NFL<\/a> footage.<\/p>\n \u201cI was trying to make a play happen,\u201d Mahomes said, according to the NFL<\/a>. \u201cAs I threw the ball I got hit, and I haven\u2019t seen it, it felt like someone hit me from behind as well, so kind of got rolled up on. Kind of happens in football. Try to bound back up but obviously it hurt a little bit. Now we\u2019ll get after the rehab part of it and try to be ready for next week.\u201d<\/p>\n Mahomes did not return to the game but watched from the sidelines as the Chiefs defeated the Browns 21-7.<\/p>\n \u201cPatrick, his right ankle has been hurt. It\u2019s not broken, but it\u2019s sore,\u201d Chiefs head coach Andry Reid<\/strong> said of the quarterback\u2019s ankle in an interview with reporters after the game, per social media<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019ll get started on the rehab part of it as we go, and then we\u2019ll just have to see how he does.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not broken, that\u2019s what I can tell you,\u201d Reid continued. \u201cHe\u2019ll literally be day-to-day as we go forward. I don\u2019t know how much swelling he has or any of that.\u201d<\/p>\n Mahomes sustained a high ankle injury following a combined hit when he was caught under two Cleveland Browns players: defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo<\/strong> and defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s sore,\u201d Reid further told reporters<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019ll literally be day to day. He probably could\u2019ve gone back in. He wanted to go back in. There was no need for that.\u201d<\/p>\n Footage after the game showed Mahomes leaving the locker room and being driven on the back of a cart headed for further evaluation on his ankles \u2014 he was not wearing a brace or tape on the injured extremity.<\/p>\n \u201cUsually the day after is when you get a good sense of it,\u201d Mahomes said of his injury. \u201cI feel like I could have finished the game in different circumstances. But I thought the smart decision was put Carson in. He\u2019s played a lot of football, and he finished the game well.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s currently unclear if Mahomes will be ready to play with the Chiefs for their final two games of the year.
