Kimberley Sustad<\/strong><\/a> is a Hallmark Channel guru, starring and writing projects for the network \u2014 but that doesn\u2019t mean she doesn\u2019t get insecure about her talents.<\/p>\n

While writing the script for 2024\u2019s Three Wiser Men and a Boy<\/em>, Sustad, 37, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> she felt immense pressure to perform. (Sustad worked with star Paul Campbell<\/strong><\/a> on 2022\u2019s Three Wise Men and a Baby<\/em> and its sequel.)<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been worried for so long \u2014 talk about not feeling like you\u2019re enough, you know, having imposter syndrome. That\u2019s me writing these movies,\u201d she confessed during Us\u2019<\/em> visit to the Three Wiser Men<\/em> set<\/a> in Canada earlier this year. \u201cI sort of fell into it and I hate being thrust into the limelight and Three Wise Men<\/em> kind of did that.\u201d<\/p>\n

After Three Wise Men and a Baby<\/em><\/a> became one of the network\u2019s biggest holiday hits in 2022, Sustad said the imposter syndrome set it.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018Oh, no, no, no, I\u2019m not a profesh writer,\u2019\u201d she recalled.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMaking her own magic! Kimberley Sustad first popped up on the Hallmark Channel in 2012 \u2014 and she has since become a leading lady and film writer for the network. Two years after her breakout Hallmark role in A Bride for Christmas, Sustad nabbed her first lead part as Marilee White in 2014\u2019s The Nine [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The network and fans alike, however, weren\u2019t buying it. \u201cPeople are like, \u2018You are! Write another,\u2019\u201d Sustad explained. \u201cYou are like, \u2018Oh my God, what if I can\u2019t?\u2019 And then everyone will know.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress \u2014 who made her writing debut for Hallmark with 2020\u2019s Christmas By Starlight<\/em> \u2014 compared the pressure to being a musician. \u201cIt\u2019s like writing a hit album. And then they\u2019re like, \u2018So where\u2019s the next song?\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cI can\u2019t imagine being that artist.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite her reservations and \u201cfear and panic\u201d at the task to create a successful Three Wise Men<\/em> sequel, Sustad told Us<\/em> she thinks their team made a \u201cbetter\u201d movie than the first. In the first movie, the Brenner brothers work together to take care of a baby dropped at a fire station. In the follow-up the siblings \u2014 played by Tyler Hynes<\/strong><\/a>, Andrew Walker<\/strong><\/a> and Campbell \u2014 must coordinate the baby, now a little boy\u2019s school holiday play.<\/p>\n

In the original, Sustad made a cameo as a doctor. In the sequel, she briefly reprised her role \u2014 and broke the fourth wall \u2014 which fans are sure to have seen.<\/p>\n

During the sequel, Sustad\u2019s Dr. Maclaren attends the children\u2019s play explaining that she\u2019s a patron of the arts. \u201cYou know, I was a little worried because last year\u2019s show was so good, it\u2019s hard to follow up a hit with another hit, you know what I mean?!\u201d Sustad\u2019s character quips, poking fun at the hard process she and Campbell faced writing the second movie. After awkward laughs from everyone, Campbell\u2019s Stephan replies, \u201cYeah tell me about it!!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a version of that at one point where [I] was a little more of an obstacle at the school, like, the principal or something like that. And then I just felt like it didn\u2019t service [the story]. It was too distracting,\u201d Sustad said of her sequel cameo. \u201cThe wink is what it needs and it\u2019s what it\u2019s always needed. So we retracted that and wrote it differently [and] made her just come in at the end.\u201d<\/p>\n

Us Weekly got an exclusive inside look at the filming of Three Wiser Men and a Boy, which premieres on Saturday, November 23. The [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While cowriting Three Wiser Men<\/em><\/a> propelled Sustad to Hallmark superstardom, she\u2019s been part of the network since 2012<\/a>. Two years later, she helmed her first rom-com for Hallmark with The Nine Lives of Christmas<\/em>, which she told Us<\/em> is the most accurate description of her real-life persona.<\/p>\n

\u201cMarilee is me,\u201d she said, referring to the doctor she plays in 2014\u2019s The Nine Lives of Christmas<\/em> and 2021\u2019s The Nine Kittens of Christmas<\/em>. \u201cThat was my first introduction to Hallmark and I just brought myself to all of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sustad revealed that her character\u2019s choice to buy a gallon of ice cream at the grocery store after having a hard day still resonates with her. \u201cI didn\u2019t know people didn\u2019t really do comedy at that time in these movies, but I just was me,\u201d she explained. \u201cI bump over things. I\u2019m klutzy. I don\u2019t think I\u2019m enough, all of that. The [I] want to crawl into a hole and die aspect about her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beginning on Friday, October 18, fans will be treated to festive movies on Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Mystery and the network\u2019s streaming service, Hallmark+. Additionally, there are four miniseries coming to Hallmark+ [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Sustad continued, \u201cIf you could do another one or [create] another character like [her] that would be great. Based upon characters that we\u2019ve played like a Miss Congeniality<\/a><\/em> or something. I feel like that person.\u201d<\/p>\n

Like Sandra Bullock<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s Gracie Hart in Miss Congeniality<\/em>, Sustad is not a fan of being all gussied up. \u201cI can\u2019t wait to take off all [my] f\u2014ing high heels. I can\u2019t wear a skirt. I am just not that girl,\u201d she teased.<\/p>\n

Although Sustad isn\u2019t set to reprise her role as Marilee just yet, fans will see her this holiday season in The Santa Class<\/em><\/a>. The movie, which premieres on Saturday, December 14, also features a cameo from Campbell, who plays one of her Santa hopefuls.<\/p>\n

In The Santa Class<\/em>, Sustad plays Santa School owner Kate North, who works with instructor Dan (Benjamin Ayres<\/strong>) to help a Santa Claus named Nick (Trevor Lerner<\/strong>) with amnesia regain his memories while saving Christmas and her school.<\/p>\n
