\u2018The Mask\u2019 actor, 62, has recently stepped out of the limelight to paint and indulge his love of philosophy, but has reprised his role as villain Dr Robotnik in the upcoming semi-animated action movie \u2018Sonic the Hedgehog 3\u2019, which is out in cinemas from 20 December.<\/p>\n
He told reports when asked why he has come out of \u201cretirement\u201d: \u201cI came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd, you know, it\u2019s just\u2026 I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jim played Robotnik in the last two \u2018Sonic\u2019 films, which came out in 2020 and 2022.<\/p>\n
\nBut while promoting the second installment in the computer game-inspired franchise, the actor said: \u201cWell, I\u2019m retiring. I\u2019m being fairly serious.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI feel like \u2013 and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists \u2013 I have enough. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cI\u2019ve done enough. I am enough.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nJim famously became the first actor to make $20 million for a single film after he landed the paycheque for starring in 1996\u2019s \u2018The Cable Guy\u2019.<\/p>\n
\nHe also made $30 million for \u2018Yes Man\u2019 in 2008 after he traded his salary for an ownership stake in the movie.<\/p>\n
\nJim previously insisted it would take a heavenly script to maker him return to movies.<\/p>\n
\nHe told \u2018Access Hollywood\u2019: \u201cIt depends if the angels bring some sort of script that\u2019s, you know, written in gold ink that says to me that it\u2019s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I\u2019m taking a break.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI really like my quiet life, and I really love putting paint on canvas, and I really love my spiritual life.\u201d<\/p>\n
