Chris Evans<\/strong><\/a> is making a surprise return to the Marvel universe.<\/p>\n

The actor, 43, has signed on for Avengers: Doomsday<\/em> according to a report published by The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a> on Monday, December 9.<\/p>\n

Avengers: Doomsday<\/em> is slated for a May 2026 release but it is unclear what role Evans will play in the film.<\/p>\n

Evans appeared as Captain America (a.k.a. Steve Rogers) in 11 Marvel Cinematic Universe titles between 2011 and 2019.<\/p>\n

His character, Rogers, put down his shield as the superhero in Avengers: Endgame<\/em>. Due to this storyline, fans are wondering whether Evans would return as both Captain America\/Steve Rogers, or just Steve Rogers, who no longer is holding the Captain America mantle.<\/a><\/p>\n

Evans also made a cameo as Johnny Storm\/The Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine<\/em> <\/a>earlier this year, leading to speculation he may be playing this character \u2013 or someone else entirely.<\/p>\n

Appearing at the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle in March this year, Evans weighed in on the idea of playing Captain America<\/a> again.<\/p>\n

At the time, he said a return to the MCU \u201cdoesn\u2019t feel quite right\u201d at the moment but teased, \u201cI think there\u2019s more Steve Rogers stories to tell.\u201d<\/p>\n

Evans shared how protective he is over his most famous character.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut at the same time, I\u2019m very, very precious with it,\u201d Evans continued. \u201cIt\u2019s like this little shiny thing that I have that I love so much, and I just don\u2019t want to mess up in any way. I was a part of something that was so special for a special period of time and, in a way, it really landed so well.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the panel Evans also revealed that 2014\u2019s Captain America: The Winter Soldier<\/em>, the actor\u2019s second foray as the masked crusader, was his favourite movie from the MCU.<\/p>\n

Captain America 4 will feature Anthony Mackie playing the star-spangled superhero, a fact Chris Evans emphasized when addressing speculation that he\u2019d return to the big screen as Steve Rogers. \u201cSam Wilson is Captain America,\u201d Evans tweeted in July 2022 after a tweet from The Hollywood Reporter claimed it was \u201cunclear\u201d if [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s my personal favorite Marvel movie that I was a part of,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s not just for the movie itself but the experience. The first film, I was so nervous. You know what you\u2019re stepping into and as a result you\u2019re playing defense and you\u2019re playing not to lose. When Winter Soldier<\/em> came around, we were playing to win.\u201d<\/p>\n
