Dolly Parton<\/a> believes humour is key to a happy marriage.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Dolly Parton has been married since 1966<\/p>\n
The 78-year-old singer has been married to Carl Thomas Dean since 1966 and although they’re distinctly different characters, Dolly feels they have a shared sense of humour.<\/p>\n
Dolly said on the ‘Dumb Blonde’ podcast: “He\u2019s quiet and I\u2019m loud, and we\u2019re funny. Oh, he\u2019s hilarious. And I think one of the things that\u2019s made it last so long through the years is that we love each other [and] we respect each other, but we have a lot of fun.”<\/p>\n
The ‘Jolene’ hitmaker observed that humour is a great way to “break the tension”.<\/p>\n
She said: “Anytime [there\u2019s] too much tension going on, either one of us can like, find a joke about it to really break the tension, where we don\u2019t let it go so far.<\/p>\n
\n“We never fought back and forth. And I\u2019m glad now that we never did, because once you start that, that becomes a lifetime thing. <\/p>\n
\n“I\u2019ve seen it with so many people, and I thought, \u2018I ain\u2019t ever starting that.\u2019 I couldn\u2019t bear to think that he\u2019d say something I couldn\u2019t take \u2026 because I\u2019m a very sensitive person toward other people and myself.”<\/p>\n
\nIn 2020, Dolly revealed that she gets asked by fans if her husband actually exists.<\/p>\n
\nThe singer has always kept her marriage out of the spotlight, and some people still doubt if he’s actually real.<\/p>\n
\nShe told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “A lot of people have thought that through the years, because he does not want to be in the spotlight at all.<\/p>\n
\n“It’s just not who he is. He’s like, a quiet, reserved person and he figured if he ever got out there in that, he’d never get a minute\u2019s peace and he’s right about that.”<\/p>\n
