The 55-year-old star\u2019s most famous single, \u2018All I Want For Christmas Is You\u2019 receives heavy airplay during December and she is \u201cvery grateful\u201d to be an essential part of the holiday period for so many people.<\/p>\n
She told Best magazine: \u201cI feel very grateful. The holidays are a wonderful time, but they can also be a difficult time for some people.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just try to do my best to make people happy and to feel festive, no matter what\u2019s going on in their lives.<\/p>\n
\u201cI see myself as a friend for anyone who needs one for the holidays.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe \u2018Hero\u2019 hitmaker spends Christmas in Aspen with her 13-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe \u2013 who she has with ex-husband Nick Cannon \u2013 and they always make sure they get out in the snow as part of their festive traditions.<\/p>\n
\nShe explained: \u201cWe do this thing every year where we take Polaroid pictures of each other out in the snow and then we hang them on the small tree we have downstairs. It\u2019s so cute.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe have a few like that we always do.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAlthough Mariah acknowledged she has \u201chelp\u201d with her festive preparations, she admitted she does get involved too.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cI do some [of the prep], but I can\u2019t lie, I do have help.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI have decorators who help with the trees and things at our home in Aspen.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI have people who help with the Christmas dinner, but I do like to get in there and do some of it myself.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI like to prepare my own mashed potatoes.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe \u2018Fantasy\u2019 singer insisted she doesn\u2019t care about Christmas presents.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cIt\u2019s like the song says, \u2018I don\u2019t care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree\u2026 Christmas is not about the presents for me, it\u2019s about the Christmas spirit.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI have always had such a strong emotional connection to this time of year.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI have always wanted Christmas to be perfect for everyone. I still do. That\u2019s why it\u2019s such a special time for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
