Cynthia Erivo<\/a>.<\/p>\nWhen asked how she handles society\u2019s \u201cbeauty standards\u201d and the \u201coverwhelming\u201d pressure women feel \u201cto always look perfect\u201d, Ariana started to well up \u2013 as Cynthia gripped her arm and told her it was \u201calright\u201d.<\/p>\n
Ariana said: \u201cMy goodness. I\u2019m not gonna\u2026 good question.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been kind of doing this (be in showbusiness) in front of the public and kind of been a specimen in a petri dish really since I was 16 or 17, so I have heard it all.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI\u2019ve heard every version of it \u2013 of what\u2019s wrong with me. And then you fix it, and then it\u2019s wrong for different reasons. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut that\u2019s everything from \u2013 even just the simplest thing \u2013 your appearance, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAriana added it is \u201chard to protect yourself from that noise\u201d when \u201cyou\u2019re young and you\u2019re hearing all kinds of things.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nShe went on: \u201cI think that it\u2019s something that is uncomfortable no matter what scale you\u2019re experiencing it on, even if you go to Thanksgiving dinner, and someone\u2019s granny says, \u2018Oh my God, you look skinnier! What happened?\u2019 or \u2018You look heavier! What happened?’\u201d<\/p>\n
\nShe said being on the other end of such comments is \u201chorrible\u201d, before adding: \u201cI think in today\u2019s society, there is a comfortability that we shouldn\u2019t have at all \u2013 commenting on others\u2019 looks, appearance, what they think is going on behind the scenes or health or how they present themselves.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cFrom what you\u2019re wearing to your body to your face to your everything\u2026 there\u2019s a comfortability that people have commenting on that that I think is really dangerous, and I think it\u2019s dangerous for all parties involved.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAriana opened up about her dramatic weight loss in April 2023 when she was filming \u2018Wicked\u2019 in London, by posting a long TikTok video in which she encouraged people to be \u201cgentler and less comfortable commenting on people\u2019s bodies\u201d.<\/p>\n
