It\u2019s a truth universally acknowledged that Kelly Clarkson<\/strong><\/a> does not have any bad Kellyoke covers, so it\u2019s fair to say that choosing her best cover songs from The Kelly Clarkson Show<\/em><\/a> is an impossible task. However, Us Weekly<\/em> has a few favorites that certainly outrank the others.<\/p>\n

Clarkson cemented her place as a pop powerhouse on November 30, 2004, with the release of her sophomore album, Breakaway<\/em>. The album, which included \u201cSince U Been Gone,\u201d \u201cBehind These Hazel Eyes\u201d and \u201cBecause of You,\u201d leaned more toward rock after her R&B\u2013influenced debut, Thankful<\/em>. The creative turn proved that Clarkson can handle almost any genre, something that has only been made clearer since she launched The Kelly Clarkson Show<\/em>.<\/p>\n

She introduced the Kellyoke segment in the very first episode, which premiered in September 2019, and in the five years since, America has been reminded exactly why she was voted their first Idol.<\/p>\n

To make this impossible task easier, some ground rules had to be set. Her collaborations with original artists (like Pink<\/strong> and Jelly Roll<\/strong>) are excluded because it\u2019s impossible to compete when the original performer is involved. Also, an artist can only appear once on the list \u2014 simply because this writer needed to narrow down the choices.<\/p>\n

With that said, these are Us Weekly<\/em>\u2018s top Kellyoke performances:<\/p>\n

1. \u2018Happier Than Ever\u2019 by Billie Eilish<\/h3>\n

Clarkson covered Eilish\u2019s hit in September 2021, just two months after the album of the same title dropped. It also happened to be about three months after Clarkson\u2019s divorce from Brandon Blackstock<\/strong> was confirmed, and Clarkson\u2019s visceral performance made viewers feel<\/a> that she could relate to the song. It went viral and became a favorite, landing on Clarkson\u2019s Kellyoke<\/em> EP the following year.<\/p>\n

2. \u2018Sad But True\u2019 by Metallica<\/h3>\n

Just when you think that surely there\u2019s a song Clarkson can\u2019t cover, she goes and covers Metallica<\/a> (after guest Isla Fisher<\/strong> suggested the idea during an interview). Major props to her band Y\u2019All for being able to handle any genre just as easily as Clarkson.<\/p>\n

3. \u2018My Kink Is Karma\u2019 by Chappell Roan<\/h3>\n

Remember the \u201cartist can only appear on this list once\u201d rule? That\u2019s Roan\u2019s fault. Clarkson covered \u201cCoffee\u201d and \u201cGood Luck, Babe!\u201d (featuring Miranda Lambert) first, and she even dropped \u201cPink Pony Club\u201d during the writing of this very list. However, it\u2019s \u201cMy Kink Is Karma\u201d<\/a> that has Us<\/em> hitting replay every single time.<\/p>\n

4. \u2018Cryin\u2019 by Aerosmith<\/h3>\n

Clarkson has always been vocal about her love for Aerosmith, and this cover<\/a> makes it clear that she\u2019s been preparing to cover Steven Tyler for her whole life.<\/p>\n

5. \u2018Bring It On Home to Me\u2019 by Sam Cooke<\/h3>\n

We love to see one American Idol<\/em> pay tribute to another, and Clarkson did just that with this energetic cover<\/a> of Underwood\u2019s biggest hit.<\/p>\n
