After overcoming an eating disorder, model Iskra Lawrence<\/strong><\/a> has complicated feelings about individuals using Ozempic<\/a> to slim down.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know what I\u2019ve always said, and I\u2019ll stick to it, \u2018Your body, your business,\u2019\u201d Lawrence, 34, exclusively told Us Weekly <\/i>while promoting her partnership with Elvie<\/a>. \u201cI was terrified when I first heard about Ozempic and then started realizing that whether they were direct about it or secretive about it, it did seem like my peers or people that I looked up to in the industry had potentially been taking it or you don\u2019t know and you\u2019re questioning it.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cI was really scared coming from an eating disorder<\/a> background that it was just going to emphasize this obsession with thinness. I also was really worried because it can cost money [and] then going to divide and create this disparity of people with lower income who didn\u2019t have access to this drug and people who did and feeding into this really divisive, classist fatphobia.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ozempic, Wegovy and other similar semaglutides are commonly prescribed to adults with conditions such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes as a way to manage their weight. Many celebrities, however, have recently tried the medication as a quick method to slim down despite many doctors\u2019 objections and warnings.<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tOzempic has become a hot topic when it comes to weight loss \u2014 with some stars confirming they have used the drug while others denied it. Chelsea Handler admitted during a January 2023 episode of the \u201cCall Her Daddy\u201d podcast that she unknowingly took the Type 2 diabetes medication, which is traditionally used to improve [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThere were so many thoughts. I didn\u2019t really know how to feel about it,\u201d Lawrence, who struggled with disordered eating growing up, told Us. <\/i>\u201cHowever, I\u2019ve had multiple close friends who were not online, just mom friends \u2014 from women that I know in Austin and in the business, and they have found it life-changing. Either they felt demotivated or felt like they\u2019ve tried things in the past that never seemed to really move the needle for them in the sense of a healthy lifestyle change.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawrence\u2019s pals soon \u201csaw immediate results\u201d that then kickstarted a motivation<\/a> to adapt their diet and prioritize workouts more frequently.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy friend was like, \u2018It\u2019s like someone held my hand and was with me on this journey that I\u2019ve been trying to do for many, many years, and now I feel my best and the binge-eating voices have calmed down,\u2019\u201d Lawrence explained. \u201cWe don\u2019t know how it\u2019s going to impact our society, I don\u2019t think, because it\u2019s still so early. I think it\u2019s something that should be available to people who need it.\u201d<\/p>\n

While there are positives to using drugs like Ozempic, Lawrence also cautions individuals from trying it without undergoing counseling and doing additional research.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a society, we\u2019re going to have to be really aware of how we judge people A, who choose to be on it because \u2018Your body, your choice, you go for it,\u2019 But B, the people who are wanting to and don\u2019t have access to it, and then how if they\u2019re then shunned because of fatphobia, how that\u2019s going to play into society,\u201d Lawrence said. \u201cI think it\u2019s new, it\u2019s kind of scary, but I think it\u2019s also been beneficial for a lot of people. I love to see people happy and confident and feeling empowered. If this drug did that for them, that makes me feel excited for them. It\u2019s a lot to unpack though.\u201d<\/p>\n

The model shares two children, 4-year-old son Alpha and a 1-month-old daughter, with boyfriend Philip Payne<\/strong>. Throughout her pregnancies, she would often get triggered<\/a> by her past eating disorder struggles.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ve made the choice. You are at home, there is no pain medication,\u201d Lawrence, 34, told Us Weekly exclusively about her home birth while promoting her partnership with Elvie\u2019s [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t go away. You are always going to have to manage it, but it does give you this sense of accomplishment. It does mean that when you\u2019ve battled with something that\u2019s inwards, it\u2019s not external,\u201d Lawrence told Us <\/i>earlier this month. \u201cIt\u2019s not, like, you can move to a different country or break up with this toxic person or it\u2019s inside of you and those are always the most challenging battles. So I think for me, that\u2019s what I\u2019ve always reverted back to. It\u2019s, like, I\u2019ve got my toolbox. Sometimes I might not be able to find the one I need, but it\u2019s in there. I did it; I chose recovery, and I am capable of figuring it out.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cWe don\u2019t know when it\u2019s going to pop back up. We don\u2019t know when it\u2019s going to be triggered, but we just have to \u2026 keep on going in the direction that we want to, even if it\u2019s small [or] a little bit bumpy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawrence also keeps her Elvie breast pump in her daily toolbox.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like my experience with my son, I never expected pumping to be such a huge part of my life,\u201d she explained to Us. <\/i>\u201cI really assumed that breast-feeding was going to come easily and it was COVID and I felt so isolated and stressed and I actually found that the Elvie pump that I had, the double pump, enabled me to still have the confidence to go out and do the things I wanted to do and get on with things I needed to around the house, but still be able to commit to giving my son my milk, which felt like it felt important to me because the breast-feeding was such a struggle.\u201d<\/p>\n
