University of Oklahoma football head coach Brent Venables<\/strong> and his wife, Julie Venables<\/strong>, have been through tremendous highs and lows together, both on and off the field.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Brent, 53, and Julie, 51, met when they were both students at Kansas State University, where Brent played linebacker on the football team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Once Brent\u2019s coaching journey began \u2014 first at his alma mater, then at Oklahoma and Clemson before returning to Oklahoma as head coach in 2022 \u2014 Julie was with him every step of the way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Away from football, Brent and Julie have welcomed four children: sons Jake<\/strong>, 24, and Tyler<\/strong>, 22, and daughters Laney<\/strong>, 15, and Addie<\/strong>, 14.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAtlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins had a big year in 2012 \u2014 he both joined the NFL and met his future wife, Julie Hampton. Shortly after beginning his pro career with the Washington Commanders (then called the Redskins), Cousins met Hampton through a mutual family friend. After less than two years of dating, Cousins popped [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Recently, the family was forced to share some bad news, as Julie\u2019s breast cancer \u2014 which she was first diagnosed with in June 2023 \u2014 has returned.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

July 1997<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Brent and Julie got married after meeting while students at Kansas State University.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the time of their wedding, Brent was the linebackers coach at their alma mater.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

January 2000<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

The couple welcomed their first son, Jake<\/strong>. At the time, Brent was co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at the University of Oklahoma.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jake would go on to play linebacker at Clemson University from 2018 to 2022, where his father Brent was defensive coordinator from 2012 to 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

February 2002<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Brent and Julie welcomed their second son, Tyler<\/strong>, while Brent was co-defensive coordinator at Oklahoma.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tyler would also go on to play football at Clemson, appearing as a five-year safety for the Tigers from 2020 to 2024.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The couple started out as two friends in Texas who went to school together. Brent and Julie are also parents to daughters Laney<\/strong>, born in 2008 and Addie<\/strong>, born in 2009.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

August 2023<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Before his second season as head coach at Oklahoma, Brent announced that Julie had been diagnosed with breast cancer.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been nothing short of amazing the group of people that have helped, whether it\u2019s the doctors or administration, people I work with, our staff, our players, our players\u2019 parents and certainly so many friends and the Sooner nation,\u201d Brent told reporters. \u201cWe\u2019re hopeful that we got everything and we maybe can avoid further treatments.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Brent revealed Julie had been diagnosed in June and had already undergone surgery.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

March 2024<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

Brent told The Oklahoman<\/i> that Julie had \u201czero cancer\u201d after her original diagnosis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
