When trying to win a gig working for Donald Trump,<\/strong> there\u2019s apparently a fine line between displaying the undying loyalty he requires<\/a> and sticking your head so far up his ass that it starts to annoy him. And that\u2019s a lesson that Cantor Fitzgerald CEO and would-be Treasury secretary Howard Lutnick<\/strong> has recently learned.<\/p>\n The New York Times<\/em> reports<\/a> that Trump \u201chas been having second thoughts\u201d about the two candidates previously under consideration for Treasury secretary. One of those people is Scott Bessent,<\/strong> a former employee of George Soros<\/strong> who went on to found investment firm Key Square Capital Management. The other is Lutnick, who has been running Trump\u2019s second-term transition team, and \u201chas gotten on Mr. Trump\u2019s nerves lately.\u201d According to the outlet, Trump has \u201cprivately expressed frustration that Mr. Lutnick has been hanging around him too much and that he has been manipulating the transition process for his own ends.\u201d If that sounds like a familiar tale, it might be because of reports<\/a> last year that failed gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake<\/strong> had basically moved into Mar-a-Lago in an attempt to become Trump\u2019s VP, only for Trump to grow \u201cless enthusiastic\u201d about her, having decided she was a \u201cspotlight hound.\u201d (At the time, a spokesperson for Lake insisted the chatter around Trump allegedly souring on her was nothing more than \u201cpathetic attempts from Team DeSantis\u201d to create drama.)<\/p>\n Anyway, with Lutnick apparently on the outs, Trump is reportedly now considering former Federal Reserve governor Kevin Warsh<\/strong> and Wall Street billionaire Marc Rowan<\/strong> for the top job. (Bessent is \u201csaid to still be under consideration.\u201d) According to the Times,<\/em> Trump wants someone \u201cbig\u201d for the role, whatever that means, and unsurprisingly, \u201ctends to value wealth and status on Wall Street.\u201d\u00a0He has reportedly \u201cmade clear to people close to him that he is very impressed with Mr. Rowan, the chief executive and a cofounder of Apollo Global Management,\u201d\u00a0and \u201cremarked that Mr. Warsh is smart and handsome,\u201d\u00a0the latter of which is obviously extremely important when it comes to running the federal government\u2019s finances. (During his first term, Trump decided<\/a> that he couldn’t reappoint Janet Yellen<\/strong> as chair of the Federal Reserve because she wasn\u2019t tall enough.)<\/p>\n Trump is said to want a Treasury secretary who will embrace his economic policies, like slapping<\/a> across-the-board tariffs on all foreign goods coming into the country, which experts warn<\/a> could have devastating consequences and, at a minimum, will make life a lot more expensive<\/a> for average families. As the Times<\/em> notes, \u201cof the choices he\u2019s considering, Mr. Lutnick has been especially vocal in support of tariffs.\u201d Lutnick also appears to be the only Treasury candidate who has openly embraced<\/a> Robert F.
