The Voice<\/i><\/a> winner Jason \u201cSundance\u201d Head<\/strong> is breaking his silence on the accident that nearly killed him.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sundance, a country singer who won the NBC singing competition series in 2016, released a video statement via Facebook<\/a> on Monday, November 18, several days after his 22 gun went off and fired a bullet into his \u201cnavel area.\u201d He was by his car at the time and airlifted to the hospital.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to come on and tell you guys that I\u2019m still alive, thankfully,\u201d Sundance stated to his fans. \u201cThanks to the good Lord above and the wonderful first responders as well as the trauma team at [The University of Texas at Tyler]. They did a wonderful job and they really did keep me alive. I was sure that I was gonna die. It was one of the craziest things that ever happened to me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He explained that he would \u201celaborate on this more,\u201d ostensibly at a later date.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got a wonderful story to tell you about this,\u201d he said, managing a laugh before adding, \u201cIf there\u2019s any such thing as being shocked and coming out with some kind of positive thing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On Friday, November 15, Sundance\u2019s wife, Misty<\/strong>, took to Facebook<\/a> to explain what happened to her husband.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was not his hunting rifle and no nobody shot him,\u201d she wrote in a status update. \u201cHe was out of the vehicle reaching in to grab his 22 when he grabbed it the 22 came out of its holster and hit the exterior of the Jeep just right and went off.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cSundance said it happened so fast and he could see the bullet dislodging. I thought he called 911 he didn\u2019t \u2014 he put his hands in pocket for the phone immediately after getting hit but the phone wasn\u2019t there just filled with blood so he took off down the driveway out to the main road to flag a car down for help. 10 cars later someone turned around to help and called 911.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

During season 19 of the NBC singing competition series, New York native Carter Rubin blew audiences away with his singing abilities and saw coach Gwen Stefani secure her first win. In his Monday message, Sundance said he was \u201cin a lot of pain\u201d and still had the bullet in him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not sure exactly what\u2019s gonna go on,\u201d he shared. \u201cAll I know is I didn\u2019t die the day before yesterday and I have another opportunity to live.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He recalled that he was \u201cbleeding out\u201d and \u201cdidn\u2019t have anyone to help me. I had about a dozen cars go by that [saw] me and [made] eye contact and they didn\u2019t stop. They just kept going. I\u2019m telling you what \u2026 I was at the end of the rope.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But then, \u201cA couple of gentlemen turned around\u201d and helped him get medical attention.<\/span><\/p>\n
