Eddie Redmayne was honing his spy skills when he was interrupted by tourists<\/p>\n
The 42-year-old actor can currently be seen as an undercover assassin in the TV remake of \u2018The Day of the Jackal\u2019 and he enjoyed trying to track people using the techniques he was taught during his preparation \u2013 but one mission he thought he was \u201cdoing really well\u201d in was halted when he was recognised in a busy area of London.<\/p>\n
He told Britain\u2019s HELLO! Magazine: \u201cI worked with Paul Biddiss, our brilliant military espionage advisor.<\/p>\n
“He taught me all of these techniques, like how to walk down the street and see people in car window reflections and car mirrors.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had to walk through Covent Garden in disguise and he would send me photos of people I was meant to track.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI was tracking this one person, thinking I was doing really well and staying completely undetected, until a group of tourists stopped me and asked for a selfie. That was a little bit embarrassing.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThough Eddie is unsure if he\u2019d make a convincing spy in real life, he did pick up some useful tips.<\/p>\n
\nAsked if he thinks he\u2019d be a good spy, he laughed: \u201cI\u2019m not sure about that.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI\u2019ve learned some really handy tips though. One is that if you\u2019re being chased, have your hand in your pocket so you can use the butt of your phone as a weapon if you need it. Or use change as some sort of shrapnel to throw in your attacker\u2019s face.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe other thing I learned was how some soldiers carry tampons to stem the bleeding if they are shot.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe series saw the Oscar-winning actor spend hours getting into character as prosthetics experts crafted his various disguises.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cIt was a lot of time spent in make-up, working with the most brilliant prosthetic artists.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe prosthetics take about four hours to put on and two hours to take off, so it was a lot.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cSeeing the process he goes through to stay undetected and then having that moment when he peels off the mask for the big reveal is something I really love about the role.\u201d<\/p>\n
