5 Seconds of Summer frontman Luke Hemmings<\/strong><\/a> will never forget his friendship with the late Liam Payne<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to dedicate this last song to an old friend, Liam Payne,\u201d Hemmings, 28, said during his set at the Corona Capital festival in Mexico City on Saturday, November 16, per social media footage<\/a>. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t be here without him.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cSing your hearts out, thank you very much. Mexico City, we love you, alright.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hemmings then launched into an emotional rendition<\/a> of his solo track \u201cStarting Line.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hemmings\u2019 bond with Payne, who died last month at age 31, goes back to 2013. At the time, Payne\u2019s One Direction band enlisted 5 Seconds of Summer to open for their <\/a>Take Me Home Tour<\/a> <\/i>across the United States.<\/p>\n

Payne was one-fifth of 1D, alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson<\/strong> and Zayn Malik<\/strong>. Hemmings, in addition to his solo music, performs in 5SOS with bandmates Ashton Irwin, Michael Clifford<\/strong> and Calum Hood<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Us Weekly <\/i>confirmed on October 16 that Payne suffered a fatal fall<\/a> from a third-story hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. An autopsy confirmed that the \u201cTeardrops\u201d singer died from \u201cmultiple injuries involving \u2018internal and external hemorrhage\u2019\u201d and had various drugs in his system.<\/p>\n

The 5SOS performers were among the stars to pay tribute<\/a> to Payne\u2019s passing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are heartbroken. We love you, Liam, and we will never forget the influence you had on our lives,\u201d the Australian rock band wrote in a social media tribute. \u201cYou truly believed in us and for that we are forever grateful. We don\u2019t know if we thanked you enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

They added, \u201cThere was such a bright light in you, we always saw that. We are sad, devastated that this world put that light out. We hope you\u2019ll always be singing up there.\u201d<\/p>\n
