President-elect Donald Trump<\/strong> tapped<\/a> Karoline Leavitt<\/strong>, one of the spokespeople who helped him get elected and is aiding in his return to office, as his incoming White House press secretary on Friday. At 27 years old, she\u2019ll be the youngest person to ever serve in the role and the first from Generation Z.<\/p>\n \u201cKaroline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator,\u201d Trump said in a statement. \u201cI have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium, and help deliver our message to the American People as we, Make America Great Again.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThank you, President Trump, for believing in me,\u201d Leavitt wrote<\/a> on X. \u201cI am humbled and honored. Let\u2019s MAGA!\u201d she added, including an American flag emoji.<\/p>\n Prior to Leavitt, Ron Ziegler, then 29, was the youngest press secretary after Richard Nixon gave him the position in 1969.<\/p>\n Leavitt entered into Trump\u2019s world at a young age, working as an assistant press secretary for the former president during<\/a> his first term\u2014from 2017 to 2021. After President Joe Biden<\/strong>\u2019s win in 2020, Leavitt went to work for US Representative Elise Stefanik<\/strong>, a Republican from New York<\/a>. Trump recently nominated<\/a> Stefanik to be the US ambassador to the United Nations, so she and Leavitt may work together under one administration soon.<\/p>\n In 2022, Leavitt ran for office herself\u2014winning the Republican primary for a US House seat from New Hampshire. She lost in the general election to Democrat Chris Pappas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Then, when the former president decided to run for a third time, Leavitt joined the 2024 campaign and has continued to make a name for herself in the MAGA echelons as an ardent supporter of Trump who isn\u2019t afraid to be combative against media members the camp finds unfriendly.<\/p>\n She\u2019s called NBC<\/a>, 60 Minutes<\/a>, ABC<\/a>\u2019s David Muir<\/strong>, CNN<\/a> and \u201cevery MSM outlet,\u201d amongst other organizations, the \u201cfake news.\u201d She wrote<\/a> that \u201cThe American people overwhelmingly distrust the media for good reason.\u201d \u201cThe mainstream media is propaganda for the elites (Democrat Party),\u201d she claimed in a 2021 post<\/a> on X, complete with exclamation point emojis.<\/p>\n \u201cThroughout the campaign, Ms. Leavitt adopted Mr. Trump\u2019s disdain for the mainstream media in frequent appearances on major television networks and conservative outlets,\u201d the New York Times<\/em>\u2019 Michael Gold<\/strong> writes<\/a> of the press secretary pick. \u201cMr. Trump was pleased with her performance and looked to her as a trusted voice to defend him on television, according to people who worked on the Trump campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n Ahead of the first presidential debate<\/a> between Trump and Biden in June, CNN\u2019s Kasie Hunt<\/strong> halted<\/a> an interview with Leavitt on air after she berated the network\u2019s moderators Jake Tapper<\/strong> and Dana Bash<\/strong>.<\/p>\n After Trump surrogate and stand-up comic Tony Hinchcliffe<\/strong> referred<\/a> to Puerto Rico as \u201cgarbage\u201d during his time slot at the Madison Square Garden MAGA rally, Leavitt\u2019s response contrasted with the more tame comments provided by others in Trump\u2019s communications team.<\/p>\n While senior Trump advisor Danielle Alvarez<\/strong> responded<\/a> to TIME magazine by saying that \u201cThe joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign,\u201d Leavitt took a different route.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
