It made the statement the same day X\u2019s new terms of service that spell out how it can analyze user text and other information to train its generative AI tools go into effect.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">\u201cA number of artists and creators have made their home on Bluesky, and we hear their concerns with other platforms training on their data,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/bsky.app\/post\/3layuzbto2c2x\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bluesky says in a post<\/a>. \u201cWe do not use any of your content to train generative AI, and have no intention of doing so.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Other companies could still potentially scrape your Bluesky posts for training. Bluesky\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/robots.txt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">robots.txt<\/a> doesn\u2019t exclude crawlers from Google, OpenAI, or others, meaning those companies may crawl Bluesky data. \u201cBluesky is an open and public social network, much like websites on the Internet itself,\u201d spokesperson Emily Liu tells <em>The Verge<\/em>. \u201cJust as robots.txt files don\u2019t always prevent outside companies from\u00a0crawling those sites, the same applies here. That said, we\u2019d like to do our part to ensure that outside orgs respect user consent and are actively discussing within the team on\u00a0how to achieve this.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">In another post, Bluesky <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/bsky.app\/post\/3layuzbtpys2x\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">notes that<\/a> it uses AI to \u201cassist in content moderation, which helps us triage posts and shield human moderators from harmful content.\u201d It also uses it in the algorithmic Discover feed. \u201cNone of these are Gen AI systems trained on user content,\u201d Bluesky says. The company also points to <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.social\/about\/support\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a page<\/a> where you can find its <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.social\/about\/support\/tos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">terms of service<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.social\/about\/support\/community-guidelines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">community guidelines<\/a>, and other policy documents.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Bluesky just crossed 17 million users, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.jazco.dev\/stats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a stat tracker<\/a>, as users seek out alternative microblogging platforms to X. Meta\u2019s Threads, one of its primary competitors, isn\u2019t standing by. Threads boss Adam Mosseri said yesterday that the platform has already surpassed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/11\/14\/24296490\/meta-threads-15-million-adam-mosseri-bluesky\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more than 15 million signups<\/a> just this month, and Meta said today that it is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/11\/15\/24297313\/threads-custom-feeds-test\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">testing custom feeds<\/a> \u2014 a feature that Bluesky <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/11\/14\/24296490\/meta-threads-15-million-adam-mosseri-bluesky\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">is already well known for<\/a>.
