It\u2019s official. After playing coy about their coronation plans<\/a>, Prince Harry<\/strong><\/a> and Meghan Markle<\/strong><\/a> have confirmed whether they will attend King Charles III<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s historical event.<\/p>\n Harry, 38, is set to attend the May 6 festivities without Meghan, 41, the palace confirmed on Wednesday, April 12.<\/p>\n \u201cBuckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on May 6th,\u201d a statement read. \u201cThe Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.\u201d<\/p>\n Us Weekly\u00a0<\/i>previously confirmed in March, two months before the king\u2019s coronation, that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had been extended an invitation.<\/p>\n \u201cI can confirm The Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty\u2019s office regarding the coronation,\u201d a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said in a statement<\/a> at the time. \u201cAn immediate decision on whether The Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n The\u00a0Spare\u00a0<\/i>author<\/a> had previously been candid about his willingness to attend the big day given his family estrangement<\/a>. (Harry and the\u00a0Suits<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>alum have been at odds with Charles, Prince William<\/strong><\/a> and Princess Kate<\/strong><\/a> after they stepped back from their duties as senior royals<\/a> in 2020.)<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s a lot that can happen between now and then,\u201d Harry admitted during his January ITV interview.<\/a> \u201cBut, you know, the door is always open. The ball is in their court. There\u2019s a lot to be discussed and I really hope that they are willing to sit down and talk about it.\u201d<\/p>\n Charles \u2014 who ascended the British throne in September 2022<\/a> after the death of his mother<\/a>, Queen Elizabeth II<\/a> \u2014 is set to celebrate his coronation<\/a>\u00a0at Westminster Abbey\u00a0on Saturday, May 6, which is the same day as Harry and Meghan\u2019s son Prince Archie<\/a>\u2019s 4th birthday.<\/p>\n Harry\u2019s attendance will mark the first time since the queen\u2019s funeral<\/a> (and Harry\u2019s tell-all book release) that he will reunite with the rest of the royal family.<\/p>\n \u201cI want a family, not an institution. \u2026 They\u2019ve shown absolutely no willingness to reconcile,\u201d Harry \u2014 who also shares daughter Princess Lilibet, 20 months, with Meghan \u2014 claimed during his ITV sit-down earlier this year<\/a>. \u201cI would like to get my father back. (The Duke of York had allegedly been asked to leave his Royal Lodge residence after his sexual assault scandal<\/a>.)<\/p>\n \u201cThe word is that this is both a blow and a shock to them, especially given the timing [right after the release of\u00a0Spare<\/i>], but there\u2019s nothing they can really do,\u201d a source exclusively told\u00a0Us\u00a0<\/i>in March<\/a> of the California-based couple. \u201cCharles could just as easily have kept it open for them if he\u2019d wanted to but it seems clear he doesn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n The insider added at the time: \u201cKing Charles maintains the royal family regaining Frogmore is being done for practical purposes.
