Melania Trump has detailed her first ever meeting with her future husband, President Donald Trump<\/p>\n
The former model “politely declined” to give Donald, then 52, her number after he asked for it after speaking with Melania, then 28, at a Kit Kat Club party in New York in 1998.<\/p>\n
In an extract from her new book \u2018Melania: A Memoir\u2019, serialised by The Times newspaper, she reveals: “He was accompanied by a beautiful date, so initially, I dismissed our conversation as mere pleasantries \u2026 When his companion left for a moment, he asked me for my phone number. I politely declined his request. He was a little surprised. \u2019Give me your number,\u2019 I said. With a hand gesture, Donald called over his bodyguard. His big shoulders leaned in as he listened to him, before discreetly writing a note on a sleek business card.<\/p>\n
\u201cDonald took the card and handed it to me. \u2018Call me,\u2019 he said with a smile. I tucked the card into my clutch before his date returned to the table.\u201d<\/p>\n
Following on from a photo shoot in the Caribbean, she returned to her New York apartment, and left a message on the property tycoon\u2019s answering machine.<\/p>\n
\nDonald, 78, called her back where they developed a \u201cpalpable\u201d connection.<\/p>\n
\nIn the book, the Slovenian-born beauty revealed the pair \u2013 who married in 2005 and have an 18-year-old son Barron \u2013 spent their first date, \u201ca mix of business and pleasure\u201d, at his expansive Seven Springs property in Bedford, New York.<\/p>\n
\nMelania continued: \u201cIt was a crisp Sunday when he picked me up in his black Mercedes.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe house in Bedford sits on 230-acres of land at the end of a long driveway. \u2019It\u2019s like a French chateau,\u2019 I said. \u2018Do you live here?\u2019 No, I don\u2019t actually live here, I\u2019m just here to make sure everything is okay,\u2019 he said with a smile.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cHe mentioned his plans to turn the property into a golf course.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe walked through the rooms, him giving me a tour while also inspecting the place.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cLooking back, it was a very \u2018Donald\u2019 first date \u2013 a mix of business and pleasure.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMelania, 54, \u201cfound that aspect of him intriguing right from the start\u201d, and believes that the 47th President of the United States \u201cappreciated that [she] had knowledge and experience under [her] belt\u201d from her career.<\/p>\n
