Donald Trump<\/strong> has literally declared<\/a> that Kamala Harris<\/strong> should be prosecuted for her border policies, that Liz Cheney<\/strong> should be tried by military tribunal, and that \u201cLawyers, Political Operatives, Donors\u201d should receive \u201clong term prison sentences\u201d for the 2020 election\u2014but according to House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan,<\/strong> the former and incoming president will not use the law to go after his political opponents.<\/p>\n Appearing on State of the Union<\/em> on Sunday, the Ohio representative told<\/a> Dana Bash,<\/strong> with a straight face, that Trump will not prosecute his perceived enemies in a second term because he didn\u2019t do so in his first, despite numerous campaign threats. Trump \u201ctalked about \u2018Lock her up\u2019 when he was talking about his opponent in 2016, Secretary Clinton\u201d but he \u201cdidn\u2019t do that,\u201d Jordan explained<\/a>. After Bash noted that that was then, and more recently, Trump has threatened numerous opponents with prosecution, Jordan responded: \u201cI don\u2019t think any of that\u2019s going to happen because we\u2019re the party who\u2019s against political prosecution. We\u2019re the party who\u2019s against going after your opponents using law fare.\u201d<\/p>\n Jordan did not give a straight answer when asked if Trump\u2018s threats were simply \u201ccampaign rhetoric,\u201d but shifted the focus to how Democrats have supposedly \u201cgone after their opponents using law fare,\u201d telling Bash: \u201cWe all know the Fani Willis<\/strong> case, the Alvin Bragg<\/strong> case, and the Jack Smith<\/strong> cases were all driven by politics. The American people understood it. That\u2019s why that they had this overwhelming win, one of the reasons of this overwhelming win for President Trump.\u00a0So I\u2019m against the retribution.\u201d<\/p>\n While Trump may not have gotten the government to actually bring charges against his opponents in a first term, it wasn\u2019t for lack of trying. In fact, he repeatedly tried<\/a> to get his attorneys general to investigate Barack Obama,<\/strong> Joe Biden,<\/strong> John Kerry,<\/strong> and other Democrats but was refused. Meanwhile, investigations into other people who crossed him were launched, including ones into former FBI officials Andrew McCabe<\/strong> and Peter Strzok.<\/strong><\/p>\n On Friday, Jordan and GOP representative Barry Loudermilk<\/strong> sent a letter to special counsel Jack Smith\u2014who Trump has said should be thrown out of the country\u2014demanding that Smith\u2019s office preserve any and all records concerning prosecutions against Trump. (Smith, who is said to be winding down<\/a> his Trump cases, oversaw the indictments against the ex-president for mishandling classified documents and trying to overturn the 2020 election.)
