In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.net\/@nytguildtech\/post\/DCP0tTuyRfv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a statement published on Monday<\/a>, the New York Times Tech Guild said union members will \u201cmarch into the office together in the morning as a symbol of what\u2019s to come for The Times.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">The Tech Guild represents the over 600 workers who manage technology across the digital paper. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/11\/4\/24287600\/new-york-times-tech-guild-strike-before-presidential-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Union members went on strike the day before the US election<\/a>, raising concerns about whether the <em>NYT<\/em>\u2019s vote-tracking tech, like the Needle, would hold up on Election Day. The union and the <em>NYT<\/em> will continue negotiating on a contract.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">\u201cThe systems and digital products that worked over the election did so thanks to the hundreds of unit members who worked for months preparing everything to run smoothly,\u201d Kathy Zhang, New York Times Tech Guild unit chair said. \u201cWhat broke down during this strike broke because our members weren\u2019t at work.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">The Tech Guild says its work stoppage impacted the <em>NYT<\/em>\u2019s election coverage in a few ways: the outlet didn\u2019t display state-level or non-presidential needles, for instance, while its app and website \u201cwere slow to load.\u201d Last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/the-new-york-times-tech-workers-ending-their-labor-strike-2024-11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Business Insider<\/em> reported that around<\/a> 100 tech workers crossed the picket line on Election Day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Now that the strike is over, the Tech Guild says supporters can resume playing the <em>NYT<\/em>\u2019s games and using the Cooking app. The union previously asked people to avoid playing any of the <em>NYT<\/em>\u2019s daily puzzle games, and it instead directed users to the games striking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/11\/6\/24289937\/nyt-tech-workers-strike-games-wordle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">workers created on a separate website<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">\u201cWe look forward to continuing to work with Tech Guild to reach a fair contract that takes into account that they are already among the highest paid individual contributors in the Company and journalism is our top priority,\u201d <em>NYT<\/em> spokesperson Danielle Rhoades Ha said in an emailed statement to <em>The Verge<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/11\/11\/24294023\/new-york-times-tech-workers-strike-end\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The New York Times\u2019 tech employees, who are behind Wordle and Connections among other games and features, will go back to work on Tuesday following a weeklong strike.
