Norman Lear<\/strong> seemingly had some behind-the-scenes drama with Carroll O\u2019Connor<\/strong>, the actor who played Archie Bunker on All in the Family<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Tripp Whetsell<\/strong>, who is the author of the upcoming biography, Norman Lear: His Life and Times<\/em>, claimed in a recent interview with Cracked<\/em><\/a> that Lear and O\u2019Connor \u201chad a very difficult, contemptuous relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was much more Carroll than Norman,\u201d Whetsell alleged. \u201cCarroll was carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders with Archie Bunker.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whetsell claimed that O\u2019Connor would go into \u201cevery production meeting with the red pen\u201d and make changes to his character\u2019s dialogue.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tCelebrity feuds are so captivating that there\u2019s even an award-winning Ryan Murphy anthology TV series devoted to the topic. While some A-list beefs seem inevitable \u2014 Nicki Minaj vs. Cardi B, for example, or Jef Holm vs. Arie Luyendyk Jr. \u2014 others seem to come out of nowhere. Freddie Prinze Jr., for instance, spoke ill [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThey had a very difficult relationship, but Norman really respected him,\u201d Whetsell told the outlet. \u201cDeep down, they respected and loved each other, but creatively it was only challenging for them every step of the way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lear was the mastermind behind All in the Family<\/em> and other legendary sitcoms in the 1970s. O\u2019Connor starred in All in the Family<\/em> alongside Rob Reiner<\/strong>, Sally Struthers<\/strong>, and Danielle Brisebois<\/strong>. He played Archie from 1971 to 1983 on the original show and its spinoff Archie Bunker\u2019s Place. O\u2019Connor\u2019s portrayal of the sometimes controversial blue-collar TV dad earned him four Emmy wins.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connor died in 2001 at age 76 due to a heart attack. Lear, Reiner, Struthers and Brisebois attended the actor\u2019s funeral. Last year, Lear died at 101<\/a> from cardiac arrest.<\/p>\n

According to Whetsell, O\u2019Connor wasn\u2019t the only actor to find themselves at odds with Lear throughout their career. The author claimed that both John Amos<\/strong> and Bill Macy<\/strong> also had issues with Lear.<\/p>\n

Amos, who recently passed away in August<\/a>, struggled with how Good Times<\/em> would constantly use Jimmie Walker<\/strong> and his catchphrase \u201cDyn-o-mite!\u201d as comedic relief. For Amos, the use of Walker was becoming \u201cintolerable\u201d as the groundbreaking series followed a Black family who lived in public housing in Chicago.<\/p>\n

\u201cI looked at it objectively and said, \u2018I can see that he\u2019s comic relief. We do a lot of serious issues on the show, and people don\u2019t want to get beat over the head,\u2019\u201d Amos said in the book, per Cracked<\/em>.<\/p>\n
