That didn\u2019t take long.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, it didn\u2019t come as much of a shock, either.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday night, one of the most popular programs on all of television returned \u2014 and viewers tuned in specifically to see what fate would befall John Dutton, the patriarch on Yellowstone played by veteran actor Kevin Costner.<\/p>\n<p><em>Formerly<\/em> played by veteran actor Kevin Costner, that is.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><noscript><\/noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"666\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.thehollywoodgossip.com\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Yellowstone-KevinCostner.2.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-512993 lazyload\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.thehollywoodgossip.com\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Yellowstone-KevinCostner.2.webp 1000w, https:\/\/cdn.thehollywoodgossip.com\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Yellowstone-KevinCostner.2-300x200.webp 300w, https:\/\/cdn.thehollywoodgossip.com\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Yellowstone-KevinCostner.2-768x511.webp 768w, https:\/\/cdn.thehollywoodgossip.com\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Yellowstone-KevinCostner.2-960x639.webp 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) calc(100vw - 20px), 720px\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/cdn.thehollywoodgossip.com\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Yellowstone-KevinCostner.2.webp\" loading=\"lazy\" data-trellis-processed=\"1\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kevin Costner had quite a run at the center of Yellowstone.<span class=\"image-caption-credit\"> (Paramount)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It came out months ago that Costner and series creator Taylor Sheridan butted heads over the drama\u2019s shooting schedule because Costner wanted to flip his eventual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2024\/09\/kevin-costner-money-problems-horizon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flop of a movie, Horizon: An American Saga<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As a result?<\/p>\n<p>Costner said via Instagram way back in June that he was done with Yellowstone.<\/p>\n<p>This was an unusual and unfortunate circumstance because Yellowstone itself isn\u2019t done; the show still had the back half of Season 5 to film.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/C8dgouZIWlR\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; But it all sort of depends.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel satisfied, and very happy with what we\u2019ve done. You know stories can\u2019t go on forever,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re going to position it to have some sort of conclusion in some of the relationships and this and that.
