Podcast studio Lemonada Media has found a new partner for its book club, this time <a href=\"https:\/\/explore.appleservices.apple\/Lemonada-Book-Club\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">teaming up with Apple Books<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple\">The companies have selected three titles \u2014 <em>A Living Remedy<\/em> by Nicole Chung, <em>Drama Free<\/em> by Nedra Glover Tawwab, and <em>You Can Make This Place Beautiful<\/em> by Maggie Smith \u2014 that are available as ebooks and audiobooks on Apple Books. And this isn\u2019t Lemonada\u2019s first foray into audiobook clubs \u2014 the company did <a href=\"https:\/\/hotpodnews.com\/why-arent-book-club-pods-more-of-a-thing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">something similar with Penguin Random House<\/a> last year, featuring titles like <em>All Good People Here<\/em>, the debut novel from <em>Crime Junkie<\/em> host Ashley Flowers. The company announced Monday that it will launch <em>The Daily Cannon<\/em> on April 24th. Nick Cannon will host the show from 9AM to noon ET daily, during which he will play tracks from and interview emerging artists.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple\">Like I noted last week, Amp is leaning on the idea that live audio can work insofar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/4\/4\/23670193\/spotify-live-shut-down-obamas-audible-amazon-jay-shetty-iheart\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as it leans on music<\/a>. This new deal with Cannon, which could have just been a talk show like any other, seems to underscore that thinking. Spotify, too, mentioned last week that the company will find ways to integrate its live audio tech to foster music-oriented engagement like listening parties. Since then, the tag has been changed to \u201cgovernment-funded media,\u201d even though it receives less than 1 percent of its funding from the federal government. Now, the BBC has been slapped with the same tag.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/entertainment-arts-65226481\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC reached out to Musk<\/a> to challenge the label, saying, \u201cThe BBC is, and always has been, independent. We are funded by the British public through the licence fee.\u201d Musk responded by saying he was trying to provide \u201cmaximum transparency\u201d for platform users but also said that he is actually a fan. \u201cI should note that I follow BBC News on Twitter, because I think it is among the least biased,\u201d he said in the exchange.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple\">It\u2019s not clear how the label affects BBC or NPR\u2019s accounts going forward. When NPR had the \u201cstate-affiliated\u201d label, that meant its tweets would be deprioritized.
