Michael Rosenbaum<\/strong> is \u201chonored\u201d to be called the best Lex Luther more than two decades after Smallville<\/em><\/a> premiered.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t aware of it for a long time, that people thought this way or felt this way,\u201d Rosenbaum, 52, told Us Weekly<\/em> exclusively while promoting his new book The Talented Farter<\/em><\/a>. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t until the last five or ten years that I started to feel it. People would have top ten lists, and I just didn\u2019t believe it for so long.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rosenbaum made his debut as Lex Luther on season 1 of Smallville<\/em>, which aired throughout 2001. He departed from the show following its seventh season in 2007, but returned for the 2011 series finale.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a lot of years. I think when you\u2019re doing it, you want people to appreciate what you did,\u201d Rosenbaum said of the show. \u201cThere [are] so many Lex Luthers in the past, and I wanted people to be happy with what I did. I was happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Social media wasn\u2019t really a thing when Smallvill<\/em>e was at its peak, so Rosenbaum didn\u2019t experience an \u201cinstant response\u201d from fans. \u201cIt was kind of a crapshoot,\u201d he admitted.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBefore there was the Arrowverse, there was Smallville. The series, which ran for 10 seasons on the WB and The CW, followed a teenage Clark Kent (Tom Welling) in his early days as a farm-dwelling kid living with his adoptive parents Martha (Annette O\u2019Toole) and Jonathan Kent (John Schneider). In addition to developing his powers, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Rosenbaum told Us<\/em> that he\u2019s really \u201chumbled\u201d by the continued response from Smallville<\/em> fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud of it. It\u2019s amazing how many new people are watching Smallville<\/em>, and their kids now are watching it. A new generation,\u201d he added. \u201cWe started it all. Before us, there was no Flash<\/em><\/a> and Arrow<\/em><\/a> and Superman & Lois<\/em><\/a> and Gotham<\/em><\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to call Smallville a \u201cwell-crafted\u201d and \u201cgreat show,\u201d crediting the writing, acting and cinematography.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that\u2019s why there\u2019s so many of those [superhero] shows now, and even more movies,\u201d Rosenbaum said. \u201cI think Smallville<\/em> was a big reason for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smallville also created a \u201cbeautiful thing\u201d for Rosenbaum offscreen. The actor\u2019s friendship with former costar Tom Welling<\/strong> \u2014 who portrayed Clark Kent on the WB series \u2014 has transformed over the years mostly, in part, because of the show\u2019s continued success.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were friends, but we didn\u2019t really hang out because we worked all the time,\u201d Rosenbaum recalled. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t until after the show ended, I got Tom to start doing autograph signings. We have a rewatch podcast called \u2018TalkVille\u2019 and we do this thing called Smallville Nights, where they do little events at these cons. We just became closer and closer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe WB was a teenager\u2019s dream network before it became The CW in 2006, giving fans a ton of eye candy to look at on all of its hit series. From Summerland and Supernatural to What I Like About You and Charmed, The WB was all about bringing the hottest actors to the forefront, and [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Now, Rosenbaum and Welling are \u201ctrying\u201d to sell a show together. \u201cWe\u2019re like brothers,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Welling and his 5-year-old son<\/a>, Thompson, even showed major support for Rosenbaum\u2019s recent children\u2019s book<\/a>, The Talented Farter<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHim and [wife] Jess [Lee]<\/strong> have read the book, and they sent me a video, actually, today,\u201d Rosenbaum told Us<\/em> before sharing that the book is about a little boy whose \u201conly ability, is to make his farts sound like things that you hear every day.\u201d<\/p>\n
