Al Roker<\/strong><\/a> has no judgment for people using medications like Ozempic for weight loss.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not gonna judge anybody,\u201d the Today<\/em> show host, 70, told the Daily Mail<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Saturday, November 9, while promoting his new cookbook Al Roker\u2019s Recipes to Live By: Easy, Memory-Making Family Dishes for Every Occasion<\/em>. \u201cListen, it\u2019s unlike any other addiction or dependence. You can live without alcohol, you can live without cigarettes, whatever that drug of choice is, but you\u2019ve got to eat, and so for some people, it\u2019s just difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cIf this is what works for them, I mean, who are we to say, \u2018Oh, don\u2019t do that.\u2019 As long as it\u2019s safe and effective, good for you. I think everybody\u2019s journey is their journey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roker has been open about his own weight loss journey, undergoing gastric bypass surgery in 2002 to lose 100 pounds<\/a>. At the time, his weight had reached 340 pounds. \u201cI guess what I\u2019ve come to [realize with] my relationship with food, which has happened over a period of time, is that I\u2019ve learned about portions,\u201d Roker told the Daily Mail<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In recent years, an increased number of celebrities<\/a> have relied on Ozempic, a diabetes medication, to lose weight, among other medications that have the same effect. While Roker went the surgery route, he is hesitant to dole out advice to those also looking to shed some weight and improve their own relationship with food.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very loath to give people advice about that because it\u2019s like anything \u2014 you have good days and not-so-good days, you still have emotions, things like that,\u201d Roker said. \u201cSo I tend not to go down that road because it\u2019s tough and everybody\u2019s got to face that and they\u2019ve got to figure out their path.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cAnd if that path is one of these drugs and that works for them, great. And if it helps you, if that\u2019s the thing that gets you over that point where you\u2019re able to be healthier and lead a more active lifestyle, that\u2019s great.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Roker, social media has made it \u201cmore difficult\u201d for people to maintain a healthy relationship to food, saying, \u201cWhen it comes to food, it\u2019s very hard to multitask.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cYou could finish a plate of food reading and not realize that you ate. Well, today, everybody\u2019s on their phones and doom scrolling and eating or having snacks and so I think the trick is to try to be more present.\u201d<\/p>\n
