You know that thing where, just after you\u2019ve opened Instagram and become invested in whatever video was already loaded, a new video pops in and seemingly yeets the old video into the void, never to be seen again? That\u2019s a thing of the past, according to Instagram boss Adam Mosseri, who says in an AMA from his Instagram Story<\/a> yesterday that the app now waits for you to scroll to show you the new stuff. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n That behavior \u2014 which Instagram apparently called \u201crug pull\u201d internally \u2014 wasn\u2019t just some weird bug. Mosseri says the app did it \u201cbecause we were trying to load new content, and it was taking a while, so we showed you something that was already downloaded in the meantime, and it is generally good for engagement.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n But that\u2019s \u201creally annoying,\u201d he acknowledges, \u201cso we stopped doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Instagram has taken \u201ca little bit of an engagement hit for this,\u201d Mosseri concludes, saying it\u2019s a much better experience for those of us using the app. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
