The Beatles have been nominated for two Grammys \u2014 nearly 50 years after the band officially split up<\/a>. Their final song, called \u201cNow and Then,\u201d was restored last year with the help of AI, and is now up for record of the year alongside the likes of Beyonc\u00e9, Charlie XCX, Billie Eilish, and Taylor Swift. It\u2019s also been nominated for best rock performance, where it goes up against Green Day, Pearl Jam, and The Black Keys.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n However, \u201cNow and Then\u201d was never released, as technology at the time couldn\u2019t separate John\u2019s vocals and piano to get a clear sound. But in 2021, filmmaker Peter Jackson<\/a> and his sound team were able to separate the instrumentals and vocals with machine learning technology, allowing Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr to finally complete the song.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Though \u201cNow and Then\u201d was finished using machine learning, it still falls within the bounds of The Grammy\u2019s rules surrounding AI<\/a>. The guidelines currently state that \u201conly human creators are eligible to be submitted for consideration for, nominated for, or win a GRAMMY Award,\u201d but work that contains \u201celements\u201d of AI material is \u201celigible in applicable categories.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n It\u2019s a bit strange to see \u201cNow and Then\u201d competing with modern-day music like Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s \u201cTexas Hold \u2018Em,\u201d but it\u2019s been a long time coming. We\u2019ll get to see how the Beatles fare during the 2025 Grammy Awards, which takes place on Sunday, February 2nd.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
