Cowboy cool! Yellowstone<\/em><\/a> has taken TV by storm since its 2018 debut on Paramount, but many of its stars are not new to the acting world.<\/p>\n

The show\u2019s leading man, Kevin Costner<\/strong><\/a>, who plays Montana ranch owner John Dutton, isn\u2019t the only actor on the series with a lot of experience. Luke Grimes<\/strong><\/a>, who plays John\u2019s youngest son Kayce Dutton, for example, got his real start on TV with a part on Brothers & Sisters<\/em> in 2009.<\/p>\n

The role of Kayce, however, is unlike any other for Grimes, who hails from the Midwest.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you\u2019re a little boy and you want to be an actor, what are some things you want to play? A cowboy, a soldier,\u201d Grimes told Entertainment Tonight<\/em><\/a> in January 2022. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of all of the dream roles wrapped into one. He\u2019s just an emotionally complex guy but also a badass. It\u2019s all good stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

Costner, for his part, gushed over the writing behind Yellowstone<\/em><\/a>, crediting the relatability to the reason the drama became one of the most-watched cable series in 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think [cocreator] Taylor [Sheridan]<\/strong> has written dialogue that sometimes we wish would come out of our mouth. \u2026 There\u2019s that great dialogue,\u201d the Field of Dreams<\/em> star told E! News<\/em><\/a> at the SAG Awards<\/a> in February 2022. \u201cThen if you take that idea of that dialogue singing that way, and you put it against mountains and rivers and horses running, there\u2019s an appeal that has caught people\u2019s attention at least.\u201d<\/p>\n

The cast, which was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series<\/a> at the SAGs, didn\u2019t win, but it was still a big accomplishment for the showrunners, and all involved.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no bigger compliment to an actor than being recognized by their peers,\u201d Sheridan said in a statement ahead of the 2022 awards show, noting it was the first SAGs nod his team received after four seasons on the air<\/a>. \u201cCongratulations to our incredibly talented cast on this wonderful and well-deserved nomination.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Paramount show follows the dealings of the Dutton family<\/a>, who own the largest ranch in Montana. The cast also includes Kelly Reilly<\/strong> as John Dutton\u2019s daughter, Beth, and Wes Bentley<\/strong><\/a> as his other son, Jamie. Gil Birmingham<\/strong>, Danny Huston<\/strong>, Cole Hauser<\/strong> and Kelsey Asbille<\/strong><\/a> round out the ensemble.<\/p>\n

The two-time Oscar winner is the biggest name on the cowboy drama, playing patriarch John Dutton. Yellowstone<\/em> marks Costner\u2019s biggest TV role to date, but he\u2019s had success going back to the early \u201880s. Some of his most memorable parts include portraying Crash Davis in Bull Durham<\/em>, Ray Kinsella in Field of Dreams<\/em>, Frank Farmer in The Bodyguard<\/em>, Sonny Weaver Jr. in Draft Day<\/em>, Al Harrison in Hidden Figures<\/em> and Larry Bloom in Molly\u2019s Game.<\/em><\/p>\n

Bentley broke into television in 2014 playing Edward Mordrake on American Horror Story<\/em>\u2019s fourth season. The Native American actor has been playing Thomas Rainwater\u2019s right-hand man and driver, Mo, since Yellowstone\u2019s<\/em> premiere. The South Dakota native played Crazyhorse on one episode of The Wild West<\/em> in 2007 before landing the role of Sitting Bull on The American West<\/em> in 2016. While working on Yellowstone<\/em>, the actor also filmed The Good Lord Bird<\/em> miniseries in 2020, portraying Ottawa Jones.<\/p>\n
