Bette Midler<\/a> has quipped that the White House is once again “adorned by a downright moron” after Donald Trump was re-elected. <\/p>\n

Bette Midler has called Donald Trump a ‘downright moron’<\/p>\n

The ‘Hocus Pocus’ actress, 78, is among the celebrities dismayed by the 78-year-old Republican’s landslide victory in the November 5 US presidential election after he beat former vice president Kamala Harris, 60.<\/p>\n

In a lengthy statement on X, she said: \u201cWhen a candidate for public office faces the voters he does not face men of sense; he faces a mob of men whose chief distinguishing mark is the fact that they are quite incapable of weighing ideas, or even of comprehending any save the most elemental \u2014 men whose whole thinking is done in terms of emotion, and whose dominant emotion is dread of what they cannot understand. So confronted, the candidate must either bark with the pack or be lost\u2026 All the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre \u2014 the man who can most adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum\u2026 The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart\u2019s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hollywood star Jamie Lee Curtis<\/a>, 65, warned how “afraid” women, young people and the LGTBQ+ community will be for their rights following the result.<\/p>\n

She wrote: \u201cSo the results are in. Many will be celebrating, possibly even gloating over their victory. Many will be stunned and sad with the terrible feelings of the loss. That is the same result despite who wins because that\u2019s what America and democracy looks like. Has always looked like. So what does it mean? It means a sure return to a more restrictive, some fear draconian time. Many fear their rights will be impeded and denied. Many, minority groups and young people will be afraid. Gay and trans people will be more afraid. We know that many women will now find it difficult to get the reproductive healthcare that they need and deserve. For all those people there will be those who will help you. Me included.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nDespite the outcome, the ‘Halloween’ star vowed that Americans would get back up and “fight” and “protest” to protect their futures.<\/p>\n

\nShe added: \u201cBut what it really means is that we wake up and fight. Fight for women and our children and their futures and fight against tyranny, one day at a time. One fight at a time. One protest at a time. That\u2019s what it means to be an American. That\u2019s what it has always meant and will always mean regardless of the outcome. Be gentle with people today. Be gentle with yourself today. Feel your feelings today but most of all\u2026..Be an American today.\u201d<\/p>\n
