Actress Alexa PenaVega<\/strong><\/a> revealed she and husband Carlos PenaVega<\/strong><\/a> had to set \u201cboundaries\u201d with their partners as a newly married couple when they appeared on Dancing With the Stars<\/em><\/a> in season 21.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was early in our marriage, and we literally said [to each other that] we don\u2019t know how spouses do this show without doing it the way we did,\u201d the Spy Kids<\/em> alum, 36, told former DWTS<\/em><\/a> pro Cheryl Burke<\/strong> on the Monday, November 4, episode of her \u201cSex, Lies, and Spray Tans<\/a>\u201d podcast. \u201cSo we fully understood the dynamics of the show.\u201d<\/p>\n The couple married in 2014 and appeared on DWTS<\/em> the following year. Carlos, 35, was partnered with pro dancer Witney Carson<\/strong>, while Alexa was with three-time Mirrorball champ Mark Ballas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u201cLike, if Carlos was doing this and I was watching this girl dance with him all close and the rehearsals or whatever, it would be so hard,\u201d Alexa continued. \u201cAnd for Carlos, at that season of his life, he was such a jealous man that even though he understood the dynamic, it was still hard for him. And you know how it is: It is incredibly flirty. You know how it\u2019s like super flirty backstage and whatever,\u201d she shared with Cheryl.<\/p>\n Alexa stood her ground when it came to her professional partnership with Mark, 38, not wanting to appear to cross any lines.<\/p>\n \u201cIf it was ever flirty, I\u2019d just be, like, \u2018I don\u2019t do that.\u2019 I was a little mean, but it was only to set good boundaries,\u201d she revealed. \u201cAnd then we figured it out, and we ended up having a really great partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n The Never Too Late to Celebrate<\/em> star said her commitment to her husband made for some uncomfortable moments while filming the sometimes steamy dance competition, which has led to some pros and their celebrity partners hooking up in real life<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI know it was really kind of rocky for everybody because when we went on the show, we literally said, \u2018Look, we\u2019re a married couple. You guys are our partners, and we are so excited to team up with you, but that doesn\u2019t mean we ditch our marriage and this becomes our No. 1. Our marriage is still first,\u2019\u201d Alexa explained.<\/p>\n The Hallmark Channel star praised Mark and Witney, 31, for being understanding of her and Carlos\u2019 situation. However, Alexa claimed DWTS<\/em> producers weren\u2019t as supportive, as they were \u201ctrying to make it like, \u2018Alexa only cares about her husband. She doesn\u2019t care about the competition at all.’\u201d<\/p>\n Ultimately, Alexa and Mark finished in sixth place, with Carlos and Witney right ahead of them, exiting the show in fifth place.<\/p>\n The Christmas Made to Order<\/em> star said she still enjoys watching DWTS<\/em>, but still views her time on the show as \u201cdifficult.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe show is just so fun to watch, and it feels good. Like, who doesn\u2019t love a good feel-good story where they\u2019re not great at dancing, but look at how far they\u2019ve come. Like, that\u2019s awesome.
