Jessica Knight and Jimmy Palmer finally had \u201cthe talk\u201d about their relationship in this week\u2019s NCIS<\/em><\/a> episode \u2014 but their fate might not be set in stone.<\/p>\n

Warning: Spoilers ahead from NCIS season 22, episode 4. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt takes potential nuclear warfare to get them to actually speak<\/a> about their feelings,\u201d Brian Dietzen<\/strong><\/a>, 46, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> of the pivotal moment during the Monday, November 4, episode, in which his character, Dr. Jimmy Palmer, finally discusses his future with Special Agent Knight (Katrina Law<\/strong><\/a>), while off grid during the FBI\u2019s takeover of their NCIS office.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re literally forced into a situation where they cannot avoid each other and they have to have a chat about their relationship,\u201d Law, 39, said during a joint interview, noting the pair \u201cput their hearts on their sleeve, which is very typical of the relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n

Law noted that it\u2019s Knight who \u201copens the door\u201d to a possible rekindled romance, asking Palmer if he\u2019s interested in getting back together.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tKatrina Law loves the \u201cKnight and shining Palmer relationship\u201d on NCIS \u2014 but fans of the pair are in for a bumpy ride this season. \u201cI think there is genuine love there,\u201d Law, 39, exclusively told Us Weekly of her character Jessica Knight\u2019s connection with Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen), noting that the thought of a [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cDo you want anything to change?\u201d Knight asked in the episode, noting that the \u201cone thing\u201d that remains is the fact they both still love each other. \u201cWouldn\u2019t it be nice if that were enough?\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Palmer, however, pointed out that they \u201cboth have things we need to work out.\u201d He brought Knight to tears when he said she deserves someone \u201cwho will chase down future job opportunities\u201d with her, like \u201cIndiana Jones,\u201d but confessed, \u201cThat\u2019s not me \u2026 at least not right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Knight understood where he was coming from and revealed that Palmer deserves \u201csecurity\u201d that she can\u2019t give him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe very gently kinda shuts it down and says, \u2018I still don\u2019t think we\u2019re ready for it. Neither one of us. I think we both need things that the other person cannot provide at this moment,\u2019\u201d Law exclusively told Us<\/em> of the heartbreaking scene. \u201cWhich still stands true. The door hasn\u2019t been slammed shut, but it\u2019s gently closed at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dietzen added that despite the pair confirming that they are broken up \u2014 they technically called it quits at the end of season 21<\/a> when Knight left for a job in California \u2014 the characters will \u201calways have love for one another.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor explained that moving forward, there will be hurdles, teasing a reconciliation isn\u2019t completely off the table.<\/p>\n

\u201cFiguring out how to navigate that, how to potentially find happiness as friends and maybe find happiness with other people, in a romantic way is gonna lead to some really awkward scenes,\u201d Dietzen said.<\/p>\n

He reiterated, \u201cIt\u2019s not as though the door is closed on a romantic revival at some point, but man, the twists and turns are gonna have to happen for that to occur.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Law revealed that she\u2019s asked the writers to \u201chave Jimmy date\u201d so she can have a few \u201chilariously awkward scenes,\u201d she confessed the future is literally unwritten for them.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s definitely still looks between Jimmy and Knight. The attraction is still alive and, you know, these two are still kind of checking each out randomly throughout the series,\u201d she said of the next few episodes. \u201cIt\u2019s not gone. \u2026 People date, sometimes it works out, some people keep breaking up and getting back together, breaking up, getting back together. Or maybe they just break up and it\u2019s always something there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Law played coy about where Knight and Palmer lie in relation to the romances she described, but told Us<\/em>, \u201cThere\u2019s definitely an underlying attraction and love between them that you will feel throughout the rest of the season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dietzen agreed, saying that as he and Law move forward in season 22 they have to figure out the \u201cextra layer on top\u201d of their characters\u2019 dynamics.<\/p>\n
