Tennis star Frances Tiafoe<\/strong><\/a> issued an apology after going on a profanity-filled rant against a chair umpire.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following his loss to Roman Safiullin<\/strong> at the ATP Shanghai Masters event on Tuesday, October 8, Tiafoe, 26, unleashed a tirade<\/a> against umpire Jimmy Pinoargote<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cF\u2014 you, man! F\u2014 you! Seriously, man. F\u2014 you!\u201d Tiafoe screamed. \u201cYou f\u2014ed me out of the f\u2014ing match! You f\u2014ed the match up! Great f\u2014ing job! F\u2014 you! Three f\u2014ing hours I\u2019m f\u2014ing out here battling. Only for my livelihood.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Tiafoe, who reached the semifinals of the US Open in September, was upset about a questionable time violation given to him by Pinoargote during a crucial moment in the third set tiebreak.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI really apologize for the way I acted,\u201d Tiafoe wrote via his Instagram Story on Tuesday. \u201cThat is not who I am and not how I want to treat people. I let my frustration in the heat of the moment get the best of me and I\u2019m extremely disappointed with how I handled the situation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cThat\u2019s not acceptable behavior and I want to apologize to the umpire, the tournament and the fans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

While no fine has yet been announced, players are subject to a $60,000 penalty if they \u201cverbally abuse an official.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In the incident in question, Tiafoe was handed a time violation by Pinoargote at 5-5 in the final set tiebreak.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo, no, no, no. I tossed the ball up,\u201d Tiafoe said while walking from the service line to the umpire chair. \u201cNo, I tossed the ball up. I was at the line and I tossed the ball up.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
