While HBO has yet to officially lock in a Hal Jordan for its upcoming Lanterns <\/em>series<\/a> based on DC\u2019s comics, the network has found its John Stewart.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Today, HBO announced that Rebel Ridge <\/em>and Old <\/em>star Aaron Pierre will play Lanterns<\/em>\u2019 John Stewart, a new recruit to the Green Lantern Corps. who partners up with veteran Lantern Hal Jordan to solve a \u201cdark, earth-based\u201d murder mystery that requires their expertise. As Deadline<\/em> notes, Kyle Chandler has reportedly been in talks<\/a> to join the series as Jordan, and Pierre narrowly edged out Homecoming<\/em>\u2019s Stephan James for the Stewart role.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Lanterns<\/em>, which doesn\u2019t yet have a solid release date, is one of the more high profile live-action projects set to kick off Warner Bros. and DC Studio\u2019s new universe of interconnected comic book adaptations<\/a> consisting of films like James Gunn\u2019s Superman <\/em>and series like Creature Commandos<\/em><\/a>. It will probably be a while before we know more about what Lanterns <\/em>showrunner Chris Mundy is cooking up for the boys in green. But as long as it\u2019s been since we got a good John Stewart story on the small screen \u2014 Justice League Unlimited <\/em>finished airing in 2006 \u2014 it could be very worth the wait.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
