More important than God!\u00a0The\u00a0<\/b>Marvelous Mrs. Maisel\u2019s<\/em><\/a> Rachel Brosnahan<\/strong><\/a> opened up about the relationship between Midge and Lenny \u2014 and revealed what she loves most about the fan\u00a0favorite pairing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThat relationship has evolved in ways, that as fans will know, I never could have expected. And in fact, I was told was never gonna happen,\u201d Brosnahan, 32, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> on the 2023 PaleyFest red carpet. \u201cBut it did. I mean, I do love their relationship. Because when\u00a0Midge\u00a0first meets him, he\u2019s, like, a\u00a0god<\/a>.\u00a0He\u2019s someone \u2014 he\u2019s like a prophet. He\u2019s a fairy godfather throughout the series. And as the show goes on, as she rises and as she begins to find her way, they\u2019re closer. They\u2019re just such a great match.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n For four seasons, the hit comedy teased fans with the chemistry between Midge (Brosnahan) and fellow comedian Lenny Bruce (Luke Kirby<\/strong><\/a>). The pair become fast friends after meeting in the back of a cop car during the series premiere. As the show went on,\u00a0their dynamic continued to flourish as they crossed paths at various gigs. While season 3 hinted that the duo may become something more one day<\/a>, they kept their distance, never crossing the line into romance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n However, the season 4 finale saw the couple finally give in to their desires and spend a night together in a hotel room. While Brosnahan told Collider<\/em> <\/a>in April 2022 that she was initially hesitant to see Midge and Lenny become anything more than just friends, the House of Cards<\/em> alum admitted that it ultimately benefited their character development.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI love that they get together as equals and completely on their own terms, and I love that it\u2019s funny and lovely<\/a>,\u201d Brosnahan gushed to the outlet of the hotel scene.\u00a0\u201cIf they were ever gonna get together, despite initially being adamantly against it, I couldn\u2019t be more happy that that\u2019s the way they chose to do it. I should never have been surprised that they would have nailed the landing. It was so fun.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Meanwhile, Kirby, 44, exclusively told Us<\/em> in February 2022 that he hoped the twosome would get together<\/a> at some point.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m always a sucker for people going for it,\u201d the\u00a0<\/span>Gossip Girl<\/em><\/a> alum<\/span>\u00a0said ahead of the season 4 premiere. \u201cYou know, what\u2019s the point of saying goodbye? We\u2019re all gonna have to say goodbye eventually\u00a0[so]\u00a0spend the night together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Finding the balance between taking the pair\u2019s flirtation to the next level<\/a> while still honoring Bruce\u2019s real-life history was something creators Amy Sherman-Palladino<\/strong> and husband Dan Palladino<\/strong> took seriously \u2014 starting with making sure all of Lenny\u2019s comedy routines were \u201crecreations.\u201d (The real-life Lenny Bruce died of a drug overdose in 1966.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThere were certain rules with Lenny,\u201d Amy exclusively told Us<\/em> at PaleyFest. \u201cWe never wrote comedy for him. All of his stand-up was [real] Lenny Bruce standup. Because who\u2019s gonna write Lenny Bruce stand-up<\/a>? That was a big rule.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Despite their undeniable sparks, Lenny\u2019s role in Midge\u2019s life also goes far beyond romantic intentions for the co-showrunners. \u201cLenny served as a muse for her for a long time,\u201d Amy explained to Us,<\/em> to which Dan added, \u201cAnd a guardian angel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAnd then, even when that shifted, it immediately snapped back because he was, again, the person saying, \u2018Eye on the prize. What are you doing? Eye on the prize. I see you and I can see you\u00a0f\u2014king\u00a0this up.
