She is a wife, mother, and blogger who is sitting behind bars right now after stealing $100k from friends, family, and even strangers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The docuseries will take a deeper look into the heinous lies Amanda told for money and attention, and dive a bit deeper into the present day condition of her family.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Because even though the podcast answered a lot of fans\u2019 questions, many are still trying to piece together how much her husband knew \u2013 and if he was in on the scheme with her.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Official Trailer | \u2018Scamanda\u2019 | Premieres Oct. 9 on ABC | Stream on Hulu\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iyOoNxYz03I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"h-the-scamanda-podcast-story-nbsp\"><strong>The \u201cScamanda\u201d Podcast Story\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>To recap: the podcast and now docuseries explores the story of\u00a0 Amanda Riley, a former teacher and principal from Northern California. In 2012, Amanda revealed to her loved ones that she had been diagnosed with Hodgkin\u2019s lymphoma. She then started a blog to \u201cdocument\u201d her journey fighting the disease. This went on for nearly 7 years, during which time many of her friends, family, and online followers pitched in a total of more than $105,000 to cover medical expenses.<\/p>\n<p>The problem? Amanda never had cancer. According to the US Attorney\u2019s office, she \u201cused her presence on these sites to \u2018document\u2019 her nonexistent medical condition and to aggressively solicit donations, supposedly to cover her medical expenses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She even went so far as to shave her head and falsified medical records. The podcast\u2019s finale debuted in the summer of 2023, a year after Amanda was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-ndca\/pr\/woman-formerly-bay-area-sentenced-five-years-prison-fraud-scheme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sentenced<\/a> in May to five years in federal prison for wire fraud in the scheme, which she pleaded guilty to.<\/p>\n<p>So now, what about her husband?\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-what-cory-riley-knew\"><strong>What Cory Riley Knew<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Podcast fans have flooded Reddit with theories about how much Cory Riley, Amanda\u2019s husband, did or didn\u2019t know.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>From the podcast, we know that close family members, including Corey, helped her set up websites to acquire donations and contributed posts to her blog. However, no charges were ever brought up against anyone else in the family.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We also know through the podcast that while Amanda was faking cancer, Cory Riley was battling his ex-wife Aletta Riley in court for custody of their daughter, Jessa.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He even cited his wife\u2019s \u201cdiagnosis\u201d and medical expenses to try and win custody of Jessa and get his child support payments lowered.<\/p>\n<p>How much he knew remains a mystery still \u2013 unless you\u2019re listening carefully, teases producer and podcast host Charlie Webster. She was asked, point blank, if he thought Corey knew what was going on.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the way I would answer this is,\u201d she said to <em>Glamour<\/em>. \u201cIf you listen carefully to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glamour.com\/story\/scamanda-podcast#:~:text=Where%20is%20Cory%20now%3F,Cory&#039;s%20ex%2Dwife%2C%20Aletta.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">podcast<\/a>\u2014and there\u2019s four bonus episodes on their way after the final episode\u2014if you listen very carefully to the nuances of what was said, it will give you the answer. People are smart. The couple have two young boys, both of which were under their impression that their mother was dying all throughout this ordeal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When you scan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/ScamandaPodcast\/comments\/14fiwoa\/did_her_family_know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reddit<\/a> for fans discussing the podcast, this is the topic they get the most vocal about.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI truly believe that there is no way that her husband and mother did not know (at the least, likely her brothers as well),\u201d posted one commenter. \u201cSadly, the ones who were least likely to know it was a lie were her two boys, who were too young to psychologically understand what someone who really has cancer would look and act like, and the extent to which a cancer patient\u2019s life would be dominated by appointments, medical equipment, etc.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Time will tell if the docuseries will dive more into the lives of Corey and the boys.
