The 23-year-old star faced a backlash when her casting in the live-action remake of ‘Snow White’ was announced because people were unhappy that the <\/p>\n
fictional character was being portrayed by a person of colour but she won’t give her critics the “satisfaction” of knowing they have upset her by taking a step back from the online world.<\/p>\n
She told Variety: \u201cI don\u2019t like to give them the satisfaction of knowing they hurt me in the moment.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou give them a lot of power by taking a social media break.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe West Side Story’ actress is excited to play Snow White because of what the character means to her mom.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cShe was my mom\u2019s favorite princess.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWhen she was growing up, there weren\u2019t a lot of dark-haired princesses, and that was the one she could relate to.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nRachel previously said that she is thankful for the backlash she received from her ‘Snow White’ casting as “nothing can hurt anymore.”<\/p>\n
\nIn conversation with fellow actor and singer Halle Bailey on an episode of Variety\u2019s Actors on Actors series, Rachel said: \u201cThat nothing can hurt anymore because they\u2019ve said the worst that can be said.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cYou just say, \u2018Thank you so much for this. I have a lot of love in my life, and I\u2019m very thankful.\u2019 We get to do our work and have that speak for itself instead.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAs much as you\u2019d like to remind people verbally that being in the spotlight doesn\u2019t absolve you of your humanity \u2013 that you\u2019re allowed to have human moments \u2013 it doesn\u2019t necessarily do what you want it to do. It fuels them more.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cSo it\u2019s choosing to be present and know that they\u2019re probably just having a really hard day. And I\u2019m putting out a movie.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
