On Asian representation in media and the roles he’s looking for today:<\/b> \u201c[When I was growing up] you couldn\u2019t help but see in the media that Asian males weren\u2019t the romantic leads,\u201d he says. \u201cIf anything, they can be action stars. But in the case of [the Jet Li-Aaliyah starrer] Romeo Must Die, you can be the action star, but still not kiss the girl.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI talk to my team about this all the time. I\u2019m like, \u2018Is it a role where I don\u2019t have to take my shirt off? Because that\u2019d be great,\u2019\u201d he says. \u201cI think there\u2019s this fear of being typecast as the guy that always takes his shirt off in his roles. In that sense, it can be frustrating.\u201d<\/p>\n

His short lived role on The Acolyte<\/i> taught him how he\u2019s looking at his career moving forward, encouraging him to start having more agency in his work. \u201cIt feels like a natural pivot to produce\u2014to be a creative producer\u2014and that\u2019s what I\u2019m finding myself doing in some of these projects that I\u2019m trying to get off the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year Manny visited the Philippines for the first time in 12 years to celebrate the holidays with family over there. \u201cWe were in Makati,\u201d he says. \u201cMy dad\u2019s side, a lot of his family\u2019s still in Davao, some people are in Bulacan. My mom\u2019s side is in Gapan.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was a huge inspiration for me to tell more Filipino stories,\u201d he says. \u201cI feel like I\u2019ve only really started.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

One of Jacinto’s big dream and goal:<\/b> Making a Filipino Minari<\/i>, the Lee Isaac Chung film, or the Filipino version of Lulu Wang\u2019s The Farewell<\/i>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

His next project? Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan’s Freakier Friday<\/i>. He will be playing Lohan\u2019s character Anna’s husband. After that? \u201cThe guiding light for now is projects where I can lead the story, just anything where I\u2019m pushing the story as opposed to just supporting it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cI have this almost self-consciousness to say those words out loud, which is weird to me,\u201d he tells me. \u201cSomething about saying \u2018I want to be a leading man\u2019 is daunting or scary. But if you don\u2019t believe in it, then nobody else is going to believe in that. So I have to say that. I have to say that out loud.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the goal,\u201d he says, a glint in his eye. \u201cWe\u2019ll try and get there.\u201d<\/p>\n
