Sophie Turner<\/a> says she was \u201cwidely misquoted\u201d after she made headlines for speaking about the \u201cstruggle\u201d of life as a single mother.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Game of Thrones\u2019 actress, 28, is co-parenting daughters Willa, four, and Delphine, two, with her ex-husband Joe Jonas<\/a>, 35, who filed for divorce from her in September 2023 four years after they married.<\/p>\n

She has now said her quote given to the Sunday Times about the fight involved in being a single mother wasn\u2019t about her personal life \u2013 but a reference to the character of Joan she plays in her new ITV series.<\/p>\n

She said on her Instagram Stories about the storm over her remark: \u201cI was talking about the character of Joan that I play and was not referring to myself, which is obvious from the original interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very fortunate person needs to have a lot of help around me, which is not the case for a lot of people. <\/p>\n

\n\u201cI applaud all single mothers doing it alone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nSophie filmed her latest TV drama \u2018Joan\u2019 in the wake of her split from Joe and she admitted portraying single mother and career criminal Joan Hannington in the true story gave her a \u201clot of strength\u201d.<\/p>\n

\nShe had told the Times about how she related to the character she plays: \u201cIf I hadn\u2019t been a mother, I don\u2019t know if I would have been able to bring the same energy that I did into it. <\/p>\n

\n\u201cIt\u2019s such a struggle being a single mother.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nShe added about the character\u2019s approach to being a parent: \u201cJoan doesn\u2019t go about it in the best way\u2026 but it is amazing to see her really fighting for her daughter. <\/p>\n

\n\u201cIt\u2019s also really important for kids really important for kids to see just how hard parents work for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nSophie and Joe underwent a \u201csuccessful\u201d mediation the month after he filed for divorce and reached a temporary agreement, but the actress Turner filed to \u201creactivate\u201d their case in March.<\/p>\n

\nShe told Vogue in June as their divorce proceedings continued: \u201cI\u2019m confident that we can figure it out. <\/p>\n

\n\u201cJoe is a great father to our children and that\u2019s all that I can ask for.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
