\nThe Bad Boy Records founder, 54, is in jail in New York after he was denied bail following his recent arrest by federal agents and indictment on charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution.<\/p>\n
\nMeesha Moulton from Meesha Moulton Law has now told Page Six it would be a \u201cbold\u201d move on his part to testify during his looming trial, which is expected to start after October.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cThere is a reason that attorneys typically advise their clients not to take the stand in their own trial \u2013 testifying in one\u2019s own trial opens up the defendant to cross-examination from the prosecution.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThey attorney added the \u201cmentally gruelling\u201d cross-examination process could be \u201crelentless in trying to find inconsistencies in his statements\u201d and \u201cgetting him to admit to things\u201d which she said could be \u201cdamaging\u201d for his defence.<\/p>\n
\nShe went on: \u201cIf Diddy becomes flustered or frustrated, taking the stand will do more harm for him than good. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cThis level of scrutiny is very emotionally taxing, and if he struggles to maintain composure under pressure, it can negatively influence the jury\u2019s perception of him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe 14-page indictment against Combs showed prosecutors claim he \u201cabused, threatened and coerced women and others around him to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation and conceal his conduct\u201d for decades.<\/p>\n
\nThey also accused him of \u201ccreating a criminal enterprise\u201d whose members and associates were engaged in \u201csex trafficking, forced labour, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nCombs allegedly committed sexual abuse at his now-infamous \u2018Freak Off\u2019 parties, which are said to have involved setting up hotel rooms with \u201ccontrolled substances, baby oil, lubricant, extra linens, and lighting\u201d for the wild bashes.<\/p>\n
\nThe rapper has pleaded not guilty to all charges and insists he is innocent of claims made against him in a series of sexual assault lawsuits he is facing.<\/p>\n
\nAlthough there is no date set for his trial he has a status hearing on 9 October.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
