Chock Chapple<\/strong><\/a> is a family guy. The insurance executive and Joan Vassos<\/strong><\/a> are deepening their connection on The Golden Bachelorette<\/em><\/a> season 1, and the pair have a lot in common. Like Joan, Chock experienced losing a partner after his fianc\u00e9e Katherine \u201cKathy\u201d Elizabeth White Goree died from brain cancer in January 2022.<\/p>\n Prior to his engagement with Kathy, Chock was once married to his ex-wife, Heather Chapple<\/strong>, with whom he shares two kids.<\/p>\n During season 1, episode 2 of The Golden Bachelorette<\/em>, Joan chose the Kansas native to accompany her on the first one-on-one date of the season. Chock opened his heart to the leading lady and shared the most tragic event of his life \u2013 losing Kathy.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were together for nine years and we were engaged and we had plans to be together,\u201d Chock told The Golden Bachelorette<\/em>. \u201cAnd then I got a call from her son and he said, \u2018I need you to come to the hospital,\u2019 and I had no idea why.\u201d<\/p>\n After experiencing a seizure, Kathy underwent a CAT scan that revealed tumors on her brain. Doctors discovered she had glioblastoma, a fast spreading and most common type of brain cancer.<\/p>\n \u201cShe lived for five months, four days. I\u2019ve been through some things in my life, but I never had anyone die in my arms. It was heartbreaking,\u201d Chock recalled to Joan. \u201cIt was the only time I really showed vulnerability, where I broke down. And I started crying and you go, \u2018Why couldn\u2019t it be me? Why is this happening to you?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n He revealed that \u201cabout one month\u201d before Kathy passed away, she \u201csat [him] down\u201d and said, \u201c\u2018I want you to go on with your life.\u2019 That\u2019s one of the biggest reasons I\u2019m here.\u201d<\/p>\n Chock mourned the loss of his late fianc\u00e9e by writing a beautiful tribute to her via Facebook shortly after her death in January 2022.<\/p>\n \u201cSuper K was full of love, she lost her battle to cancer while never complaining nor having any regrets,\u201d the ABC contestant wrote. \u201cKathy\u2019s love for her family, friends and furry friends was 2nd to none.\u201d<\/p>\n Chock later cherished Kathy as \u201cthe rock of her family.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI lost a great friend and our community lost one of its best kept secrets,\u201d the post continued. \u201cKathy\u2019s friends will always be near and dear to her. They truly enjoyed each other and always had stories of fun and adventure.
